Salvatore Boarding House:

Stefan's pov:

I rushed Damon into the dungeon being none too gentle about it when I threw him in. He groaned a little but didn't wake up as I closed and locked the door.

I walked up to my room still thinking of the events that happened last night. All of my thoughts for the past while as I put my brother in the dungeon was that I could have lost the girl that means more to me than anyone before I really got the chance to be with her. I sat down at my desk and opened my journal and started writing.

Artemis fought Damon to save Caroline. She's unlike anything I have seen in my one hundred years of living. She faced Damon down with no problems. I haven't spoken to her mainly because I am so scared that I'm going to let my anger get the best of me. Although it's not really anger, no it's fear. It's fear that my brother was going to take away the one person that I was starting to love.

I stopped writing in my journal when I heard Damon start to groan and move. I sped down to the cell and stood outside the door as he brought his hands to his face and finally woke up. Damon groaned sounding hoarse and weak "where's my ring?"

I chuckled a little "won't be needing it anymore." I finished as I looked through the bars and onto Damon.

"How long have I been here?" My brother asked as he turned to look at me.

I looked at my phone that had texts on it from Artemis before looking back into the cell "three days."

"What are you doing?"

I sighed "during the Dark Ages, when a vampire's actions.. threatened to expose or bring harm upon the entire race... they would face judgement. They sought to reeducate them rather than to punish them."

Damon gasped "you know what will happen if I don't feed on blood."

"You'll grow weaker and weaker." I spoke feeling sad about this entire situation but it had to be done "and eventually, you won't be able to move or speak. In a week, your skin will desiccate, and you'll mummify. A living corpse. Unable to hurt anyone. Ever."

"So, what, you're just going to leave me in the basement forever?"

I knew from the one hundred years that I'd known Damon that he was trying to put up a facade and be calm but I could see the fear in his eyes and hear it in his voice. "I've injected you with enough vervain to keep you weak. Once your circulation stops, I'll move you to the family crypt...and then in 50 years, we can reevaluate."

"I'm stronger than you think, Stefan."

I nodded "you always have been. But you're not stronger than the vervain, and we both know it. I'm sorry. It didn't have to be this way." With that I turned around and walked away before I could have any second thoughts.

Roman Residence:

Artemis's pov:

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock ringing through my brain and as I sat up I ran my hands through my hair before getting ready.

I got dressed in some jeans and a long sleeve t shirt before grabbing my bag and getting into my car to head to school. I pulled into the school parking lot less than fifteen minutes later and walked inside where I met Elena and Bonnie by the lockers. We all watched as Caroline stood there laughing and talking like nothing happened. "I can't believe she's acting like nothing happened" Elena spoke to both me and Bonnie.
