Chapter 19

"Sinan will be there too" Yagiz says. It is not a question but a statement and some how sounds like an accusation.

" I don't know Yagiz and I don't care. I will stay out of his way. I have nothing to say to him anyway " Hazan says earnestly.

" But why are you going Hazan? The lawyer could have handled it". Yagiz says reproachfully. He contemplates talking to his lawyer and asking him to speed up the visa process for Hazan. He cannot bear Hazan to be alone and in contact with the ghosts of her past. Specially someone who almost set her on fire and put her in jail. Not to mention with Sinan with whom she has an illustrious history. He shakes his head and tell himself to grow up. He is concerned for her. But this is plain jealousy he is feeling.

" Because I cannot let it go like that. You built that brand and you spent all the money. He threw you out for revenge. I am going to demand all patents and trademarks . It is only fair . That's why I am going. " Yagiz is stunned in to silence again. This woman really is going to drive him crazy, he thinks. He squeezes his eyes shut and open them again, wishing his headache goes away.

" Really Hazan? What does it matter to us? I do not give two cents about them or the bloody patents and trademarks. Since when are you so money minded?" Even as he says it Yagiz feels that it came out too harsh. But now that he said it, there is no way of undoing it. Hazan was silent for a long time and he was afraid that the connection has been lost.

"It's not the money, it's just that it was the turning point of my life in so many ways. It's.. It's what we did together you and I . And those pictures are trademarked too. I understand that they mean nothing to you. But they mean a lot to me" Hazan says evenly, desperately trying to keep her promise to herself to not to get angry with Yagiz . Yagiz bite back an apology. She doesn't deserve one, he says to himself.

" Please be careful and listen to the lawyer ok? And remember what I said about Sinan" Yagiz says praying that she will not go and do the exact opposite just to spite him.

Contrarily to what Yagiz feels, Nil seems very much subdued and eager to finish the ill fated partnership, just as much as Hazan does. Sinan, thankfully does not show, but Nil produces a power of attorney from him. So they must be together again. If there were really two people in the world that deserves each other, they are Sinan and Nil, Hazan thinks. 

 As discussed with the lawyer, Hazan say no to any monetary benefit and ask for the trademarks and patents. Nil seemed to have worked this out way before than her, for she produces a deal that includes crucial trademarks and patents and a monetary settlement. Though she contemplated on rejecting it , at the end of it Hazan was glad that she is left with some money. 

Being out of work and her savings almost gone, she barely has enough to live right now. This money and the refundable deposit coming in the apartment will go a long way in establishing some independence when she moves to USA. So far Yagiz is spending everything for her visa process through his lawyers and she was too afraid to make any comment about it, not wanting to upset him more than he already is.

Days went by and Hazan's visa application was finally in the process. The lawyers were very optimistic about it coming through enabling her to stay in USA without restrictions. Now that her mother and sister have settled in their new home, Hazan also needed to get ready. She at least had the privacy to do it at peace, thank god. 

 Not that there were many things she had to wrap up. The apartment lease is running out in one month and she has told them that it will not be renewed. She has sorted her cloths and other things. Only thing she has not done is to talk to her mother and sister. She visited them yesterday with the full intention of coming clean. However, her mother, who is very much a subdued character these days than the typical Fazilet, has made a bitter comment about Yagiz leaving her and going despite him knowing the whole story of how Hazan suffered to protect him. 

This made her realize that Fazilet would hate him even more if he divorce her daughter and send her back in couple of months. Doesn't matter he did not want this marriage in the first place. You do not argue with Fazilet. Hazan ended up telling them that she is going to use the visa sent by Betul and go to Germany soon. Both of them protested, but looked like they were expecting something like this. Looking at Ece Hazan felt guilty for not telling her the truth. After all Ece had always supported both of them and was closer to Yagiz than she was at one point. But she also lied to Hazan for months and months and the new Hazan will not be swayed by only her emotions. 

Fazilet also revealed that she intends to work as a housekeeper to a wealthy family and that Ece wants to go back to school as soon as Ozuger was big enough. These were very positive news for Hazan, for she was always against them living off Mr. Hazim's money. Love them or hate them, It is going to be really tough living without them, Hazan thinks, sighing as she arranges cloths in her suitcase. 

She needs to call Yagiz, if only to find out how he is. Hazan knows that he is a strong and very well grounded person but this is a load that even a person like him will find hard to carry. She has made some excuse to call him every day after their initial conversation. It was harder to read him over the phone, but she could say that he was struggling with many things. She has to tell him things today to aggravate that unfortunately. But she has learnt her lesson hard and going to tell him everything, no matter how hard it is.
