"Don't worry. I have a room that can be accessed from outside with access to the kitchen and living room. You will not be encroaching my personal space, as you call it" Yagiz says finally, when Hazan was basically hyperventilating at the other side. As Hazan correctly guessed, he was used to living alone. At first as a teenager he was lonely, but as time passed he enjoyed his alone time. Infact he has not felt lonely since 19, he thinks, until he met Hazan and felt lonely every minute he spent without her.
" Thank you and Yagiz.." Hazan starts and Yagiz who knows her well cut in again.
"We can close this conversation Hazan. Let's not argue over rent and cost and whatever it is that you want to argue about. Ok?" He says and she sighs in frustration.
" Yagiz I need to tell you one more thing" Hazan trails off, trying to gather courage. It is funny how she used to lash at him for the smallest thing and now she is afraid of a simple conversation with him. But she knows what is going to follow will not be to his liking.
"I am listening Hazan"
"Sinan came here yesterday" Hazan says and holds her breath. The meeting was less dramatic than she had anticipated, specially for anything associated with Sinan. She had not answered his calls or texts and he has finally materialized at her door last night. He did not look well. It was obvious that he was living on the move. His usual chic cloths were not very tidy looking and his beard was overgrown and unkempt. Hazan contemplated on not opening the door but thought it better to face it. She was done running away from things and hiding. He seemed to have lost the edge of his anger towards them and was trying to justify his actions to her.
Hazan listened as much as she could, because yes she was at fault for falling in love with his brother, even more at fault because she thought she was in love with him initially. In the end when Sinan was not making any sense she told him that it does not matter now and she does not want to talk about it anymore and does not want to see him again. The old Sinan came back at that and he was aggressive trying to repeat the same thing and saying that she loved him and should be loyal to him. However goaded by him, Hazan managed to stay quiet on her plans to go abroad and breathed a sigh of relief when he finally left.
Now she was trying hard not to shiver and remain light toned describing it to a disturbingly quiet Yagiz.
"Hazan, did he hurt you?" He asks finally in a deadly quiet voice.
"No he did not. You know he is aggressive sometimes.." Hazan stutters.
" Don't lie for God's sake" Yagiz says menacingly.
"He gripped my arm but I managed to wrestle out of his touch quickly" Hazan says, unconsciously rubbing the spot which is still quite sore.
Yagiz feels so much rage and it takes a huge effort for him to not thrash his living room or throw things to the solid glass wall. The images of Sinan pushing Hazan and her falling to the ground in the corridor flash through his mind, as he tries to calm his wildly beating heart. Yagiz can never understand the cruelness of what Sinan did to him. But he can have empathy. Sinan got the short end of the straw because his brother fell in love with his girlfriend. For someone with Sinan's attitude, it was a huge blow. But he will never understand or forgive Sinan for hurting a woman, specially Hazan.
"Yagiz honestly it is ok. I handled it. He will not come back again"
"You have always been protecting him. So nothing new here" He says scathingly and Hazan laughs aloud, a little crazily.
" I seemed to have protected many people at the cost my sanity" She says sadly.
" I don't know how sane you were to begin with" Yagiz says but his tone has no heat.
" I was fine until I got an American virus" Hazan shoots back and again Yagiz find himself smiling to himself. This, as usual, is not going according to his plan. Why is he flirting with the woman who betrayed him?
" Yagiz, this is just gossip. But Gokhan has filed for divorce. "
" Ah finally. He did hint something like that the other day" Yagiz says and Hazan shakes her head in surprise. He spoke to Gokhan. He had listened to her hasn't he? She feels hope blossoming in her heart.
" I called him from office. He knew the land number there anyway" Yagiz says in answer to her unspoken question.
"I am glad" is all she says.
