Attempt Plan B

When we got back to school. Josie and Lizzie filled me in on what I missed. I found Hope in Landon's room. 

"Hey. I know today was rough, but, um, I didn't know it was ice cream rough" I joked noticing the big mug of ice cream in her hand.

"Yeah, it's my... my second" Hope said "I'd just figured I would come up here and reminisce about simpler times. You know, when my boyfriend wasn't a sadistic jackass. So please, come on in, save me from myself" Hope gestured to the seat in front of her.  

I sat down in front of her "Pretty sure you were the one doing all the saving today. I heard what happened" I said to her. 

"Well, we're still down two Squad members, so let's face it, we got our asses kicked today" Hope said.

"I respectfully disagree. I think we won-- not the war, but an important battle" I said to her. 

"Malivore was toying with us. We don't even know what he wants" Hope shook her head. 

"What he wants is to drive a wedge between us, to turn us all against each other, to isolate you. Which makes us all weaker" I inform her. 

Hope lightly nods her head "How do you know?" she asked confused. 

"That's how bullies work. Malivore failed. We are more together than we have ever been in a long time. Especially, me and you. Hope you are my best friend, and my family. I will not let Malivore hurt you. You have my word" I said to her. 

She lightly smiles at me "You sound like Uncle Elijah" 

"I am his daughter after all" I said, and we both laugh. 

"I bet Cleo's scared, too" Hope said.

"She knows we are coming to get her" I said and Hope nods. 

"Come" Hope leads me to Lizzie and Josie's room. We walk in. 

"Are we interrupting?" Hope asked. 

"Just my latest existential crisis" Lizzie said to us. 

"Well, we know Josie usually handles those, but... We can give it a shot?" I asked Lizzie. 

Lizzie nods and we sit on her bed. 

"I'm sorry for always crapping on you about Landon. And it's not just your relationship I do it with my sister, too" Lizzie said softly. 

"I have done enough therapy sessions with Emma to know that is the part where I ask: Why do you think that is?" Hope asked.

"Because you guys... have something that I never really had... but I'm pretty sure that I want it. Love" Lizzie said.

Hope and I nod at what she is saying.

"That kind that is soft and builds on mutual respect, that grows over time... and becomes something that I would do anything for" Lizzie said.

"Maybe you should be having this conversation with MG" Hope said to her. 

"I made it clear that I was open for business but... he hasn't come around... Ethan has" Lizzie mentioned. 

"I know he asked you on a date. Maybe you should go for it, let yourself be happy with him" I said to her. 

"Which I canceled" Lizzie said. 

"Then un-cancel" Hope said, and I nod my head agreeing with her. 

"With everything that is going on, do you really think that I'm ready for that?" Lizzie asked us.
