I could say I love you.
but words are meaningless once I say them.
I am discredited with facts of past,
tormented by my miscreation's of the dusk.
I could say I love you,
but would you kiss me all the same?
Would your eyes twinkle at me under starlight?
Would your mouth still taste of cherry wine?
I could say I love you,
but I fear my words are past their prime.
That I have turned around too late,
that I have embraced you far too soon.
I could say I love you,
but I fear you won't return them,
that your heart is set in bruise.
I could say I love you,
but would you know my love is with you
during gentle winds, with new frost,
with fallen leaves, with blooming crop.
I could say I love you,
but I fear that star has set already,
and tomorrow has come with broken hearts.
