Back again.
Rae
Several hours later we were finally in The States and we were on our way back to my house.
"Alright, we get in the house. We gotta see what possibly went down. Remember, the house is as Donovan left it the first day he got there. So let's just check some things out." I told them. I was met with tired murmurs.
I was extremely tired too, but we at least had to check that out. See how things possibly went down when they picked him up. I was a little nervous pulling up to the house. I didn't know what to expect when we got in there. But I was certainly eager to find out.
I pulled up into the driveway, barely put the car in park.
"Wait." Matteo put his hand on my shoulder. "You got your gun?" I felt it in my holster and nodded.
"Yeah." I needed to slow down. We had to secure the area first.
"You too, Leo." Matteo gave him a pistol, he nervously accepted it. "Just in case."
"Just in case..." He sighed. "You guys ready?"
"Yeah, let's leave the bags in here until we know for sure." I said. We got out and I had my gun ready. "I'm gonna look around the back."
"Okay, I'm gonna go on the other side to the back. Leo, stay in the front. Safest place, the headlights of the truck are on." Matteo instructed. It was dark, I couldn't really see anything. I didn't bother to install any motion lights because I didn't think I'd be at this house at all.
I started walking around the sides, then finally reached the back. Looked normal, the porch was empty. Looks like nothing had been tampered with. I saw a figure on the other side, my heart dropped and then I remembered it was Matteo.
"Things look good over there?" I asked.
"Yeah." He replied.
"Okay, let's go back to the front and check on Leo." We both went to the front to see Leo standing by the front door.
"All good?" He asked.
"Yeah, you?" I nodded towards him. He gave a thumbs up. I went up to put the key in the door. I opened the door and it was so cold. I guess no one was here to keep on the heat and there's no telling when the heat was last on.
"Fuck it's cold." Matteo commented. I turned on the lights and immediately noticed a couple things. Damn, he barely got through the door. "There's his bag." I walked over to it and he had just sat it by the dining table in the kitchen. He had another bag on the table.
I noticed in the living room, some of the pillows on the couch were disheveled. I went over to them to move one, and saw a gun.
"Assuming this is Donovan's?" I held the gun up. Matteo came over to get a closer look.
"Yeah, that's his. Where'd you find it?"
"In the couch. I'm assuming when he heard the knock on the door, he was gonna take it with him. But then just hid it behind the couch. Good idea, considering it the cops." I shook my head.
"Rae, aren't there visiting hours at the jail?" Leo questioned. I shrugged.
"I mean, I know there is if he's in prison. Should we go down to the station?" Something told me that wasn't a good idea. "I don't think it's the best decision."
"Listen, I say we'd give it a try. At least see how he's doing. I know he can't say a whole lot in the jail, but he could tell us something. Anything about what happened when he got here." Matteo said.
