Y/n didn't care that she brought a bat to school.

Although it was risky bringing Azazel on campus, she needed him. He was her emotional support bat. Considering she was about to meet with Professor Kim for the first time since she was kidnapped, this was a huge deal. She knew Namjoon's secret. Well, she was sure Namjoon knew she knew thanks to Jin. Regardless, this would still be awkward. What did she say? What could she say?

Azazel was hiding in her hoodie. He didn't bother peeking his head out like he normally did. He stayed inside and joined her for the day: in class, walking around campus, and now. The sun was set, the windows showing the evening sky. It was prime vampire hour. Namjoon was a part of that since he was a vamp. She wished she found out sooner.

Y/n wondered how Namjoon felt about the whole war. She knew he was neutral, but to what extent? Did he support feeding off humans? Was he against it? Actually, back up: how did Jimin feel about it? If he was going to start a democracy, they'd have to vote on laws. Feeding off innocent humans was controversial territory since, from what Y/n could tell, many vampires were psychopaths who ran free. A lot of that was thanks to Jungkook, but could Jimin control it? And, more importantly, what bad things had Jimin done? Surely he wasn't innocent either. She knew he hired vampire serial killers and had killed before, but to what extent?

Y/n adjusted her hoodie so Azazel had more space. She could feel his fur rubbing against the t-shirt she had underneath. With her hand, she gave him head pats through the hoodie, Azazel purring in approval but being mindful enough to keep his noises down.

The office door stared back at her. Although she had to go in, she hesitated. It was as if the extra few seconds would change the truth that was reality. It didn't, and she found herself going in anyway. Namjoon snapped his head up. As soon as they made eye contact, his face fell. She kicked the door shut behind her and locked it. Azazel, sensing it was safe, peeked out and cooed. Namjoon tilted his head.

"You brought Jungkook's pet bat?" Namjoon asked.

"Well, technically he brought himself. Do you think telling Azazel what to do will work?" As if on cue, Azazel made another cooing sound and gave Namjoon an open-mouthed smile that lit up his dark eyes.

Namjoon blinked. "Fair point. I assume you're here to ask me about Jin and how long I've been protecting you?"

"Something like that." Y/n took a seat, folding her hands together and placing them on the desk. Her eyes met his, and she could see the scarlet hiding inside. "Why did you agree to protect me? As far as I know, you're not like Jin and Jimin. Jin's my... father." She cleared her throat. "And Jimin was the first to hold me. What motivation do you have to keep me safe?"

"Isn't wanting to protect an innocent good enough of a motivation? It was the right thing to do. Besides, you're my best student. What professor wants to see their best student, or any student for that matter, suffer? Everyone deserves protection. Especially when they have valuable blood that Jungkook wants to extort."

Y/n froze. "What?"

Namjoon glanced up at that, his face falling. "Jin didn't tell you?" At her refusal to answer, Namjoon looked down. "Half-breeds are rare for a reason, Y/n. What did Jimin tell you about them?"

"They die quickly."

"Ah, he really does act like your older brother. He stretched the truth, probably to protect you and keep you calm." Y/n felt her tongue go dry, Azazel sensing it and snuggling with her as a result. She pet his head, but no comfort could prepare her for his next words. "Half-breeds are kept alive and get their blood extracted by the most powerful clans. Half-breeds have blood that's not only amazing, but it can get vampires high. Do you remember how it felt when Jungkook bit you?"
