Jungkook hated his life.

He watched as Jimin whistled, his finger breaking off and turning into a bat. Jimin grunted as it happened, falling to one knee and panting. Jungkook came a bit closer, observing Jimin's frail figure in the dim light the cave provided. It seemed as though he hadn't been eating. Jungkook hadn't been present in Jimin's life for a long time, but even he recognized how skinny the man had gotten. His shirt was cut up thanks to the fight, Jungkook peeking at Jimin's bare back. Even with the fabric on his body, Jungkook could see the scars Jimin had.

"What happened to you? Who gave you those?" Jungkook asked as the bat squawked, scouting out the area. The walls were vast. This was the back entrance to Breylin. The empty back entrance. Their voices echoed around the chamber, barely any light peeking through thanks to the lack of holes in the walls.

Jimin peeked up, raising a brow. When Jungkook motioned to his back, Jimin placed his hand there. Then, he started laughing, his eye smile coming out. "You don't remember?" At Jungkook's confusion, Jimin stood and brushed himself off. He kept his smile. "You did."

With that, he strolled away, following his bat. Jungkook lingered, staring at the back of Jimin's head. He saw it in his mind's eye. He saw Jimin wearing that stupid Mickey Mouse hat as he laughed on the tea cup ride. The Disneyland in Tokyo was relatively new back when they went. The ride was bumpy and far from the best experience. Jimin still loved it. Jungkook had never received so many "thank you's" in one day. His heart burned, his lips twisting into a frown.

Jimin had his eyes set forward, not back. He never bothered to look at Jungkook no matter how far he fell behind. Jungkook didn't mind. He had been hurting his best friend this whole time. His brother was right in front of him, and he had scars all over his body that Jungkook gave him. His heart shattered, and it showed in his eyes. Jimin was still trotting away. He was fading more and more from Jungkook's line of sight. Jungkook let out a breath.

"Why did you go?" he asked, his voice teetering on a whimper. Jimin halted at that, but he didn't quite turn around. "I'm sorry, Jimin." This time, Jungkook let his voice crack, tears burning his face. "I formed Breylin to protect us. To protect you. My goal was always to protect you. You're my brother. You always were, and you always will be. I needed you. I needed your help to protect the vampire world-"

"By slaughtering people?" Jimin interrupted, turning back and meeting Jungkook's eyes. There was a hint of scarlet in Jimin's irises. For the first time in a long time, that terrified Jungkook. "Your way of running the vampire world is letting it do whatever it wants. Look around. Look at what just happened to Y/n. Your own people are going against you and trying to devour the one person you claim to care about, but I know that's not true. You claim to be doing this for Breylin, for your vampires, for your friends, but no. I don't believe that. There's only one person in this world you care about, Jungkook: you. You care about yourself, and that's it. You aren't a leader. I'm not either, but even I understand how wrong your methods are."

"Your peaceful solution won't work. The vampires are already too far gone. They don't need restrictions, they need to learn to use their vile ways in better manners. Less killing, more strength. I don't want them to kill humans either, but we need to at least appear strong. If we put up a strong front, the humans will never bother us. There won't be a war between us. The humans would be scared to speak out on us or seek us out. We'll live in peace."

"We'll live in peace by making them afraid."

"Humans have always been terrified of what they don't know. There are two possibilities, Jimin. Either we are alone in this universe, or we are not. To the humans, they believe they are the dominant ones on Earth. They believe they're alone. When they find out they aren't, they'll hate us. I admire your ideals. Really, I do, but you're an optimist. Too much of one. If your idea doesn't work, then the vampire world is doomed. If mine doesn't work, at least we have a fighting chance. If a war breaks out between vampires and humans, I'd rather be with the vampires who were taught to fight. The ones who were taught to control their powers. We're not a peaceful species. You still have it in your mind that you're a human, but it's been centuries. Give it up."
