Lullaby

Jimin laughed.

The ride spun in circles as carnival music played around them, Jimin holding onto the Mickey Mouse hat on his head while he went. Jungkook was filming him the whole time, Jimin about to fall out of the tea cup due to the speed of the vehicle. Jimin couldn't form words. His cheeks hurt from how much he was smiling. It felt as though his eyes were permanently crinkled due to the intensity of his grin.

By the time the ride came to a stop, Jungkook was already exiting, Jimin behind him. He was about to fall, but Jungkook steadied him. "Those short legs causing you trouble?" Jungkook asked.

"You're hilarious. Be a comedian."

Jungkook snorted and helped Jimin down, the two of them departing the ride and skipping down the concrete pathways making up Disneyland. Jimin held onto Jungkook's arm out of fear of getting lost in the crowd, Jungkook guiding them to a nearby ice cream stand and buying sweets for them. Jimin got a rocky road, and Jungkook got plain chocolate since he wasn't feeling adventurous. Jimin of course teased him about it, which resulted in Jungkook making fun of Jimin's height... again.

They went off to the side, sitting on one of the empty benches. It was beautiful this time of night. There were streetlights illuminating the smiling faces of the families that passed. The sidewalks were decorated with Disney characters. Some Jimin recognized, others he didn't. There were trees all around them, same with rides and stands consisting of food or merchandise. They were by the tea cup ride they just went on. Jimin could still hear the laughter and the occasional giddy shout of a kid.

Jimin was munching on his ice cream, holding it with both his hands until his jacket formed sweater paws. He licked at the treat, the Mickey Mouse hat falling in his eyes for a second. He found himself grinning, but before he could move it, Jungkook did it for him. Jimin glanced over and saw Jungkook was still filming, causing him to snicker.

"Still? Really? What is this even for?" Jimin asked.

"Our memories. I don't want Yoongi to probe our brains and find this. This is supposed to be our memory that we carry for centuries, and I don't want to forget. I... I want this to be ours. Only ours." Jimin managed to smile, taking one hand off his ice cream and instead placing it on Jungkook's shoulder.

"All our memories are ours. It doesn't matter how many people see them or know about them. At the end of the day, they're ours. They'll always be special to us no matter who knows about them," Jimin replied, taking another lick of his ice cream.

They sat in silence after that. Their eyes went up to the stars, them staying close as they watched. Laughter was all around them. For a moment, it felt like they were in the happiest place on Earth. Jimin didn't want to be cheesy, but his happy place was next to him. It didn't matter if they were in a palace or a dumpster, Jimin would find a way to smile as long as Jungkook was around.

A few minutes passed. Jimin's eyes expanded when a shooting star burst overhead, soaring through the dark sky and highlighting the tiniest details on their faces. Jungkook gave Jimin's shoulder a nudge, and Jimin turned to peer at him.

"Can you promise me something?" Jungkook asked, holding up his pinky finger. Jimin raised his as well, quirking a brow. "Can you promise you'll never forget today?" Jimin broke out into an eye smile that made his nose crunch and his cheeks crinkle. Without even thinking about it, Jimin hooked his pinky onto Jungkook's and squeezed as best he could.

"I promise."

The first thing Jimin felt was the stump that replaced his pinky.
