Y/n hated this feeling.

She was on the run from vampires, her teeth clattering together thanks to the cold. Jungkook was by her side, Azazel alternating between his shoulder and hers. Central Park was covered with frost in the snow, the trees brushing in the wind as the streetlights illuminated the moist sidewalks. Y/n and Jungkook almost slipped countless times as they went to the grassy clearing where they couldn't get cornered. Y/n was panting, praying Jimin would arrive shortly. Without him, they were outnumbered. Even with a vampire as powerful as Jungkook, Y/n didn't like their odds.

"They exposed the vampire world," Y/n said, pressing her back against Jungkook's. He guarded the front, her the back. Azazel flew up to oversee the entire area, Y/n forcing herself to pay attention to her side. "What do we do?"

"I don't know, Y/n. All I know is that we're gonna find out who's right real fucking quick: Jimin or me. The world's first exposure to vampires was through this. An attack."

"Gee, who's fault is that?"

"You have every right to be mad at me, but I offered them a peaceful solution. I tried Jimin's methods. They still didn't work."

"Only after you snapped a guy's neck in front of his friends," she said, Jungkook grunting.

"Y/n, I know we have different views, but throw me a bone here. They were threatening your life. They attacked us. How could I let them get away with that? Even after slitting that man's throat, we could have saved him if we got him blood fast. That's why I stopped and negotiated. They knew I was stopping to give them a choice: either defy me and he dies, or listen and he lives. They chose to sacrifice a member of their rebellion. That was their choice."

"I know, I don't blame you. This is just a lot to take in."

"I know, I'm so sorry. We'll get out of this," Jungkook mumbled, giving her hand a squeeze. "I promise." Although she wasn't confident, she chose to keep her mouth shut and keep praying Jimin would get there soon.

Crickets chirped. Leaves blew in the wind. Azazel's wings flapped from dozens of feet above them. She saw the way the blades of grass tickling her feet drifted back and forth as if waving to her. It was an eerie night. The sun was gone and replaced by a black sky with no clouds present. She saw the faint glow of stars above her, Azazel blending in with the terrain.

"Stay close to me," Jungkook said.

"You hear something?"

"Y/n, I hear everything." His voice was quivering, and that was when Y/n realized how screwed they were. Even she heard the rustling of the leaves. They weren't far. The footsteps were pounding around the walls of her mind as she scanned over the terrain. Although she didn't see them, she felt their presence. Her theories were confirmed when Azazel squawked from high above them, diving down and pointing to where they were hiding.

All at once, the vampires came. From behind the trees in the distance, they jumped out. There were at least a dozen. At least seven on Y/n's side, and from the glances she got at Jungkook's, she could see more. The glowing scarlet eyes had her blood freezing inside her. Every cell her body had was lighting up with fright. She pushed it aside. Jin trained her for this. She couldn't fail him. Not now.

The first two vampires came, Azazel going for the one on the left while Y/n went for the one on the right. She attacked. The man threw a punch at her, and she dodged, taking the opportunity to land a blow on his gut. The stranger groaned and staggered back. However, it was far from over. She was outnumbered. While Jungkook was handling his side better than she expected, Y/n was stumbling over the grass beneath her that was hugging her ragged shoes.
