Chapter 39: Saved

Y/N'S POV

We arrived at the meet up place. It's a bit dark and dusty, similar to an abandoned factory in the summer. This kind of environment is really not a problem for me since I've been in worse places before, this is better than an underground tunnel full of decayed bodies.

I was so occupied with my thoughts, I didn't hear Dazai calling my name several times even after he was holding my hand.

 "O-oh, sorry what was that?"

Dazai: You alright, Y/N? If this is too much for you, you can wait outside 'till it's over.

"Look who's talking, weren't you shot in the chest about a week ago? Plus, I'd rather be here with you" I smiled while he looked at me worriedly.

Dazai: Okay then, just let me know if you feel uncomfortable.

"You couldn't be more obvious that you're head over heels for me" I chuckled.

Dazai: Who wouldn't be?

The way he talks and flirts gets me every time. For a second there, I forgot that we were on a mission and currently with Atsushi.

Atsushi: So, this is the lost girl's last known location right? Ana?

 Atsushi asked after walking around, examining the place. I guess he didn't hear any of that, but if he did, it wouldn't be much trouble anyways.

Dazai: Yes, she's the daughter of the general manager so I went through their last gatherings with other officials. Turns out, she was never with her father when he went to those meetings.

Atsushi: Then where was she?

Dazai: Her nanny, Akari takes her to the park every day before his father went to work. Akari reported to the police that Ana disappeared after playing.

"Then why are we here in this abandoned site?" I asked while dusting off gunk and dirt I got on my two fingers after wiping an old box I found.

Dazai: After Ana disappeared, Ranpo deduced that she was here yesterday.

Atsushi: Just her?

"I see no traces of blood nor hair. There's not even a single footprint and it's impossible not to leave once since dust is all over the place"

Dazai: Hm, maybe she wasn't inside the factory but on it?

Atsushi: Let's check it out.

We frantically walked out of the area and Atsushi effortlessly climbed it until he reached the roof.

Atsushi: You guys, The girl! She's here!

"She is? Well, bring her down!"

Atsushi: I can't! She.. She has a knife and she's pointing it at her.

Dazai: Atsushi, what's going on?

"I'm going up there"

Dazai: What? Are you sure?

"That girl needs help, she's probably scared. I'll be fine"

It was easy for me to climb, I got up to the roof with Atsushi in less than thirty seconds since it was part of our training in the mafia.

"Hey, little girl. It's okay, you're fine.
Can you drop the knife please, Ana? It's dangerous" I gently spoke as to not frighten the kid any more than she is.

Ana: No! My nanny told me if I drop this then my dad would be in danger!

"Your dad will be fine. I promise"

Ana:  But Akari-san told me that if I don't follow her, I won't see my dad!

Ana started crying, she sniffled and let her tears just flow and drop to her clothes, not letting go of the knife to wipe them.

"So the nanny is threatening her, why?"

Atsushi: I don't know but our priority is to get that knife out of her hands. If I try to roughly grab it, she might do something that'll injure herself.

"Okay, Ana. I hear you, okay? You can hold the knife. But can we go down? This roof is a bit too high"

Ana: I have to stay here..

"Why's that?"

Ana: Because.. I have to save my dad.

Save her dad? None of this is making any sense. All I really understood from this situation is that her nanny is threatening a poor innocent kid making her think that if she lets go of the knife, she'll never see her father again. But why did she leave her here and what is she after?

Ana: That's two minutes. I gotta go.

Right after Ana said that, she ran as fast as she could to the edge and jumped off the roof. I was so surprised, I didn't have enough time to react. But of course, my ability wasn't there for display.

"Ana!" I yelled as I used Psychokinesis to stop her from hitting the ground and cracking her little fragile head.

Atsushi: Ana!

I looked down from above and saw Dazai on the ground with Ana on his lap. Looks like she collapsed from the shock, there's no blood or injury though.

Atsushi: Your reaction speed is quite fast, Y/N. I really didn't think Ana would jump off the roof.

"I guess something in her eyes was telling me she was about to do something she didn't want to"

We both went back to the agency after rescuing Ana. She still hasn't regained consciousness but Yosano told us that she just needed time to rest.

Fukuzawa: That was good, Y/N. I knew you were going to step up but I didn't think you would be extremely good at it.

"Thank you, president. If I'm going to be honest, I kind of thought it was a test. I heard about tests being given to those ability users before they work here and maybe, I was expecting this to be one. For that, I apologize"

Fukuzawa: You have nothing to apologize for. You saved a girl's life and that's all that matters. Regarding the test, you already helped the agency from falling apart. I didn't see any need to test your capabilities.

"thank you so much, president. Your words truly makes me feel reassured"

He smiled and walked out of the office. The nanny is still on the run but we found out what her goal was; the money of Ana's father. Turns out, she stole a whole lot from him by using Ana as bait. I'm glad we found Ana and she was able to return to her father, it makes me incredibly happy that I was able to save that girl's life.

They were right, I wasn't fit for the difficult job in Port Mafia, for all I know, this is where I belong. Doing the things that truly make me happy.

Dazai: Are you so happy that you're dancing?

"Of course I am, come and dance with me" I said in an inviting manner while dancing to the music of the club we were in. The song was loud and we barely heard each other but his eyes were directed at me and we were not seeing anyone else but each other.

Dazai: I love you so much, Y/N.

"I love you too" I smiled as we kissed right in the middle of the dance floor while people that surrounded us danced their heart out.

Dazai: Come live with me, I'll keep you safe and warm just how I've been doing 'till now.
