Chapter 42: Manipulate

Dazai: Hey Atsushi-kun, have you seen Y/N?

Atsushi: Oh hey, Dazai-san, I heard she went with Gin and ate outside.

Dazai: It's been like three hours, though?

Ranpo: What time did she go out?

Atsushi: She said goodbye to me at 3 pm, I think. 

Ranpo: And it's currently 6, about to become 7 pm.. I think it's best you start calling her. 

Atsushi: Sure! It got dark faster than yesterday, too. Even though she's an ability user, it's still dangerous. Oh, especially since we lost track of where Fyodor is. 

Dazai: Atsushi, repeat that one more time for me?

Atsushi: Uh, we lost track of Fyodor's location? After Y/N killed Akio, he ran away somewhere but we still managed to secretly spy on his movements. But today, all wiretaps and monitoring devices have been mysteriously disabled so we no longer know where he is. 

Dazai: Shit. 

Atsushi: Dazai-san? Where you going?!

Ranpo: Let him go, Atsushi. He needs to. 

Dazai's POV 

How could I not prevent this from happening? I'm such an idiot. I didn't even know she killed Akio. Of course, he'd pull something like this. Damn it, Y/N. I hope you're okay. There's nothing I wouldn't do just to see you alive.

Y/N'S POV

Apparently, they're using me as bait to lure Dazai into coming here and killing him. I can't let that happen, no. I have to be the first one to make a move or the chances of Dazai losing it and getting himself killed is pretty high.

"Whoever is making you do this, how much is he paying you?"

Unknown: Shut up and wait there patiently 'till he arrives. 

"We'll double it and I assure you, as a member of the agency, we keep our word"

Unknown: Tsk. Be quiet, not everyone can be bought off with money, lady. 

"Triple. Does that not sound good to you? Sur-

Unknown: You can stop that. I'm not doing this because I am being paid, alright? I'm doing it out of my own will.

If that's true then it makes things difficult. 

"Is it revenge then? I'm usually right about these things"

Unknown: Fine. That man who ordered me to do this told me that you killed Akio. 

"..Akio? And what if I did?"

Unknown: That's my friend, you lunatic! You killed my one and only friend, all right? I'm not a murderer and I've been living an honest and decent life up to this moment. I'm a law-abiding citizen but after hearing that he's dead, I couldn't take it. 

"So you wanna kill me? See me dead? You do realize that man is after someone else and not me. If you really are an honest and good person then you wouldn't let an innocent bystander get involved in this" I said, using his way of living as a manipulation tool into helping me. If I'm right, the man who is ordering him to do this is none other than Fyodor. That's great, I'm actually relieved since I can use this to manipulate him further and maybe even help him return to being an innocent citizen.

Unknown: I know..but he promised me that he would kill you after I do my job. Whoever gets involved is not my fault but yours. 

Damn it, he's right. If Dazai dies, it's my fault and I don't even know what I'd do without him. 

"You're carelessly following his orders but you don't even know what kind of person he was. 

Unknown: That's none of my business. 

"You don't even want to know what kind of person Fyodor was? How he treated Akio?

Unknown: What do you mean, he said, they were good friends.

"No, Fyodor was the one who put Akio in danger. He is to blame for his death. You can ask him this yourself and he would agree. Fyodor saw Akio as nothing but a tool for his plan" I wasn't entirely sure if Fyodor never really loved him but all I knew was that I should use this to get in his head. 

Unknown: What? Are you saying he used him? The man who drove Akio insane and told me all about it.. that man was Fyodor?

"Yes, and he's a huge enemy of the agency. If you help me, then needless to say, we can help you instead. I'm not the enemy here" I uttered, ironically, it was the statement he told me before. 

...

Unknown: Fine. I'll set you free but only because Akio used to cry on my shoulder because of how much pain he suffered. He never told me who made him feel that way but now I know. And, I intend to kill him.

"You don't have to get blood on your hands, let us handle it" I softly said, while he untied my hands and feet, allowing me to drop the ton on the ground safely. 

"Thanks. Don't worry, we'll definitely get Fyodor"

Unknown: You should 'cause if you don't, I'll be the one to kill you.

He's very confident for someone who just released their captive. He did the first mistake I did when I used to work in the mafia.

"So, the plan is to get Dazai to come here, right? Then what?"

Unknown: Well, Fyodor was supposed to be here ten minutes ago to kill you but he's not showing up..

That's when I realized, he planned for this to happen. Fyodor was never going here to kill me because he knew I would be able to talk this weak amateur into letting me go. His real goal was the same even then, I was just looking at it the wrong way.

"We're in the wrong place.." I was sweating, panicking a lot. I thought about all the possible places where Fyodor is but I couldn't hack it. I can't deduce where he could possibly be and it was driving me crazy.

Unknown: What are you talking about?

"Fyodor is never going to show up, he knew from the start that he won't be able to kill me. He just had to bring me far away from Dazai. Where are we exactly?"

Unknown: Huh. Well, I don't know for sure where we are. He just gave me this location on a napkin.

"Give me that" I grabbed the napkin he was holding that contained the written location Fyodor assigned him to go to. I noticed that it was a tissue from the restaurant I really loved; the ramen restaurant.

"Where did he give you this?"

Unknown: Um, this restaurant that sells ramen, I think. We didn't even order food, he drank coffee and left after giving me this.

"So this is where he is, no? If it isn't his exact location, we can pinpoint from there. Now, let's go" I hopped in the van I was tied in and sat in the front passenger seat. He looked at me with a confused expression on his face as if I just forgot that he abducted and made me suffer for one whole hour.

"What are you waiting for? I have a boyfriend to save"
