BEEP!
Seriously? It feels like I just fell asleep.
BEEP!
Please just leave me alone...
BE-
Wait a minute, if I didn't shut that thing up, then who the fuck did?
Jenna opened her eyes to find none other than Steve Harrington with one arm around her waist and the other retracting from her alarm clock. He wrapped his other arm back around her and nuzzled his head into her shoulder.
When did he show up? And how did I not notice? Man, that vodka really knocked me out.
Jenna adored and hated when Steve would hold her like that. It was comforting to know someone cared enough about her to be that close to her, but she didn't know if it really held the same meaning that it did when they were kids, especially given his lack of interest in her life over the past few months, and it hurt her. Jenna knew she had feelings for Steve when they got to eighth grade. Something just changed within her, but she knew she couldn't say anything to him about it. There was no way she was going to risk their friendship just because of her stupid emotions. Since he was now dating Nancy, she really needed those feelings to go away. For good. She couldn't hurt her two best friends because she accidentally let something stupidly slip because all it would do is ruin her life and embarrass her since Steve obviously didn't feel the same way. Once she jogged herself out of her thoughts, she pried herself from his grip and got up out of bed.
"What are you doing here and when did you get here?" She asked.
Her gaze flickered down to the empty bottle of vodka sitting on the floor. She carefully pushed it under her bed with her foot, hoping he hadn't seen it.
"It was movie night and I got here after you fell asleep," He winced, "And I'm so so so so sooooooooo sorry that I got here that late. I never intended to-"
"Why were you that late?" Jenna cut him off.
"I, uhhhh..." Steve took a second, trying to come up with a good excuse but couldn't. He decided to just tell her the truth, "I was at Nancy's last night, lost track of time, and when I finally remembered, it was late and you had fallen asleep. I'm sorry, Jen, I really am."
"Get out," She scowled.
"What?" He shook his head a bit, thinking he heard her wrong.
"You heard me. Out. Now."
"Jen..."
"I said now!"
"Fine, fine. If that's what you really want. Just know that I feel absolutely terrible. Is there anything-"
"The first time was fixable because we're in high school and schedules get busy; I get it. The second time was rough but I gave you the benefit of the doubt because I always do. The third time I just drowned everything out with vod- uh... the fourth time I had a sleepover with Dustin and the boys so I could distract myself from how hurt I was because my kids always cheer me up. This is the fifth time, Steve—almost all in a row—and I just can't deal with you and your bullshit anymore. So get the fuck out of my room, get the fuck out of my house, then leave me the fuck alone for a while. I need time to myself."
"Jen..."
"Just... leave. I can't deal with this right now- I can't deal with you right now. I put so much time and effort into this friendship and you can't even take the time to come over to watch a movie with me once a week or even give me a second glance in the hallways when you're with other people. I put up with your cruel friends, random hookups, and your pathetic excuses, but you can't even spare me a few hours a week to literally relax and do nothing. God! Just go away. I need one day where I don't feel drained overthinking our friendship."
Steve stood there in complete and utter shock. She'd never snapped at him like that. Ever. She didn't let any of that disappointment and anger show whenever he'd missed any other movie nights. She always acted like it was no big deal and that they'd just pick it back up the next week. Realizing just how worn down she actually felt just made him feel even shittier about what he'd done to her. He grabbed his stuff and headed out her window.
Before he closed it he peeked his head back in, "Jenna, you don't know how fucking sorry I am. I never wanted to make you feel like this and I know there's not much I can do to fix everything, but please don't leave."
"We can talk later when I'm not as furious at you," She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose, "Now, leave."
