Massive Author's Note

I can't believe that I just finished that. Damn... I'm that good, aren't I? It has been around 4-5 years of me writing this (even tho I didn't start publishing until 2022) and I'm so proud of myself and how far this story has come. It is over 100 chapters long and is well over 250k words. Seriously, thank you to every single one of you who have made it through my story and a special thanks to those of you who have commented and voted. Thank you to those of you who have been supporting me from the beginning; you all gave me the motivation to continue writing and made me feel like my writing was decent enough to keep going (Names are at the bottom of this chapter). Also, thanks for loving and accepting my original characters; they come from a special place in my heart.

So... I may or may not have lied to you guys from the beginning of the book. I know, I'm sorry, but I'm finally comfortable sharing this important fact with you now. I've been constantly saying that Jenna is based on someone in my real life... and that person is actually me :) When I first started writing this story, I was in a really bad mental headspace and needed a way to distract myself from the real world. At first, that was through just reading other fanfics, but it got to the point where I wrote myself into one and oh boy, did it help so much. Jenna was originally going to be named Jessica, but I changed it before uploading so I could envision myself in the book and be able to escape (no pun intended) from my own struggles in real life. It also just made writing my main character so much easier. Alice is based off of one of my best friends, though Alice isn't her real name and I'm not going to share her real name on here, but I am Jenna; name and all. She's who I've projected my goals as a person onto and I'm proud to say that I've 100% grown since I first started writing this. So thank you to everyone who's loved Jenna; especially when I struggled with loving myself. Now, if you ever choose to reread at all, the new casting is no longer Jessica Barden as Jenna Henderson, but me instead. I love you all and hope you continue to read my other works or come back to this one on occasion or read my own original book that I'm writing whenever I can publish it. Now, I'd formally like to introduce you to me.

I love 70's and 80's music, that's what's made this soundtrack click so nicely. It's all music I listen to in my day-to-day life, just like Jenna. And the modern music I included as a bonus is all very special to me; especially the Royston Club, COIN, and Sam Fender. They're my favorite artists of all time by a landslide. I'm a huge reader (shocker). Some of my fav books—other than fan fictions—are The Hunger Games, Series of Unfortunate Events, Once Upon a Broken Heart, anything VE Schwab or Olivie Blake, Priory of the Orange Tree, Middlegame, Heartstopper, AGGGTM, and many more books that would take too long to list lol. Steve Harrington is my favorite fictional character. Ever. That's why I wrote a whole fucking book about him basically falling in love with me. I'm just that dedicated to my man, you know? Finally, just like my character, I play the saxophone too and like Robin, had a crush on a fellow band nerd in high school who didn't like me back. Ahhh, fun times. If I see any hate on the pictures I've so graciously shared, I will take them down. That, or if I ever feel uncomfortable having them up at any point. I started writing Escape while I was in 9th grade and now I'm graduated and going to college. I'll forever be grateful for the community I've built through this story and hope you stick around for everything else I come up with in the future <3
