Meg's POV
The following morning, I wake up alone in bed. After I give myself a few moments to wake up, I lug myself out of bed and put one of Chris's t-shirts on. There's a faint smell of pancakes in the air. I put on some shorts before following the smell into the kitchen, where I find Chris hunched over the stove, flipping pancakes, with Dodger eagerly waiting by his side. I smile slightly. "Smells good." I announce and Chris snaps his eyes over to me, giving me that big smile.
"Oh, good morning. You're up early."
"So are you."
"I wanted to make you breakfast in bed." He tells me and I bite my lip, hopping up onto the breakfast bar counter.
"W-What's the occasion?"
"Does there have to be one?" He retorts, plating up the pancakes and turning to me.
"Suppose not, n-no."
"But, if I'm being completely honest, I do feel bad about last night and I wanted to make it up to you. I know I wasn't the best company."
"Hey," I reach my arms out and wrap them around his neck, pulling him closer. "D-Don't be daft. You've g-got n-nothing to feel bad about. We all have off d-days." With a deep sigh, he nods.
"I know, I know. I'm so thankful I have you. I appreciate you so much. I'm so damn lucky." I blush deeply and glance down, to which he places two fingers under my chin to lift my head up so our eyes meet. "Let's go on a mini-break." I smile and raise my eyebrows.
"A mini-break?"
"Yeah. A romantic weekend getaway. I think we deserve it. What'd you say?"
"Hmmm, I say I'm l-liking this idea already. Where are you thinking?"
"Anywhere you wanna go. I don't care. I just want to go somewhere with you. Maybe somewhere quiet and isolated." He says with a bit of a smirk, making me smile again and blush slightly. "Somewhere nice, cosy and romantic."
"I've always fancied, like, a sssnowy holiday." He glances up, thinking.
"Hmmm, how about Aspen? It's ski season right now I believe. We could book a cosy little cottage with a log fire. Go out and enjoy the snow in the day, and then cuddle up in front of the fire at night." Uncontrollably, I smile widely, biting my lip. "How does that sound?"
"That sounds pretty perfect, Mr Evans." He grins widely.
"Then it's settled. I'll book it today. We'll go as soon as possible."
"Alright then, Cap. But don't f-forget, you're on the Tonight Show with J-Jimmy Fallon next Monday." I remind him.
"Ah, shit, yeah. Well, I doubt we'll be able to get a place that soon anyway." I nod. "I'll have a look online."
"Okay, perfect. I can't wait."
"Me either." He chirps, grinning widely. I can't help but stare at him in awe, brushing my fingers against his soft, clean-shaven cheeks.
"So soft." I whisper and he chuckles softly, staring right back at me.
"I love you." He whispers, slowly leaning in and pressing his lips to mine in a gentle, loving peck. "I love you so much." And again. "I could kiss you all day." Uncontrollably, I giggle against his lips.
"I love you too, you b-big sap." He grins and pulls me to the edge of the counter, closer to his body. My legs dangle either side of him. "We could go near the end of November. After all of the Knives Out press stuff." I smile and nod.
"Sounds perfect."
"You're perfect." He mutters, pecking my lips again.
"Oh, shush."
