chapter twenty eight - merry christmas

My eyes flicker open unwillingly. I hear shuffling around the room. Chris is quietly wandering around our bedroom. It must be early. "What are you doing?" I mumble, to which he looks over at me and smiles slightly.

"Good morning, darling." He says quietly. "I just need to pop out on a errand. I won't be long." I pout and he chuckles softly, leaning over to lay a gentle kiss on my forehead. "Go back to sleep. I'll be back before you know it."

"What errand is it? Can I help?"

"Just a family one. Don't worry, it's a one man job. I'll be back in an hour or two."

"If you're sure..." He nods.

"Get some more sleep, sweetheart. I'll wake you up when I get back." I smile sleepily and nod an okay. He smiles too. "See you soon."

"Looove yoooou!" I say as he leaves.

"Love you too!" I smile widely, sinking back into the warm covers. I wonder what this errand is. I hope he does get back soon. I want a cuddle.

"Wake up, sweetheart." Chris whispers in my ear and my eyes flicker open. I smile sleepily and he grins.

"Hi."

"Hi there. I've got a surprise for you."

"Oh?" His grin doesn't fade, as he walks to our bedroom door. I squint my eyes at him, sitting up. He opens the door, and I see a flash of white, then brown, and black. My eyes widen, as the dogs hop on the bed. "Oh my god!" Ruby's tail is wagging like crazy, as she collapses on me, making her funny noises. "Scoob! Oh my god!" Lily starts howling. Fred comes up right next to me, hopping up and down. And Ted invades my personal space. I fuss them all, laughing, almost crying. "How are you even here!?" I look up over towards Chris, and then that's when my mum appears, and she smiles, almost running over to me. "Mum!?" She leans over, giving me the tightest hug, and I hug back, now definitely in tears. "What are you doing here!? How did you get here!?"

"Chris invited us for Christmas. He wanted it to be a surprise for you."

"But the flight?"

"We came on a private jet!" My eyes widen as I glance at Chris, and he smiles and shrugs.

"This is insane. Oh my days. I can't believe it." My mum laughs and nods. I glance down at Ruby, who is looking up at me with those puppy eyes. "I've missed you so much." I mumble, hugging her so tight. "This is amazing. Is Mark here too?" My mum nods.

"He's out here." Chris says, and Mark pops his head through the door frame.

"Hiya Sid!" He says.

"Hi!" I smile at my mum, hugging her again. "It's so good to see you all."

"It's so good to see you too. I've missed you."

"Chris, get over here." I demand and he chuckles, wandering to the other side of the bed. I pull him in, hugging him tightly. "Thank you so much."

"It was my pleasure. I told you I would make it the best Christmas ever." I smile widely.

"You really have. And I've only got you a couple of sweaters!" He laughs.

"I don't mind. I'm happy with sweaters, and being with you." He assures, pecking my lips. "Right! Let me show you guys your room while this one gets dressed more appropriately." He says with a wink and I laugh, rolling my eyes. My mum laughs and stands up. Lily and Ted follow them both, but Ruby and Fred stay put. I smile widely, giving them infinite kisses.
