The day after we arrive back from Aspen,
Chris and I decide to make some important calls to announce our news - his mum and siblings know, and they're all ecstatic. I don't think I've seen people happier.

We call my mum first. We usually call weekly, at least. But we haven't lately because of the holiday and everything with the premiere. She answers after a few rings.

"Hello my lovely daughter and her handsome boyfriend!" We both laugh softly and Chris waves.

"Hello mother. You sound like you want something."

"Cheeky buggar. I'm just happy to hear your voice."

"Yeah, s-sorry I haven't called in awhile. Life's been a bit hectic lately."

"It's alright, I know you're busy. How are you both?"

"Yeah, we're both really good!" Chris beams. "How about you?"

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"And Mark?" I ask.

"Yeah he's alright too. We're both fine. Same old crap." I laugh softly. "How was your holiday? It looked really nice from the pictures you sent."

"Yeah, it was incredible! Stunning there. You would have loved the fire." She laughs.

"Yeah, it was really beautiful. We had so much fun." Chris adds, grinning while glancing at me.

"Aww, you two are so loved up." I smile widely, biting my lip.

"Anyway, mum, we have nnnews."

"Yeah?" I take a deep breath, my heart racing. Chris squeezes my hand reassuringly, still grinning at me. It's almost as if he's not nervous at all about telling my mum.

"Well, while we were in Aspen... Chris asked me a question... he asked me to marry him... and I.. I said yes. So... we're engaged!" There's a small pause. Oh shit. Then my mum starts grinning.

"Oh my god, finally!" She beams and I pause, furrowing my eyebrows. They both let out little giggles, unable to keep their smiles at bay.

"I may have, sort of asked for your mom's permission."

"You what?"

"Not that he needed it! Told him it wasn't at all necessary."

"I know, I know. I just, well, I wanted your blessing. You mean so much to Meg and it wouldn't have felt right if I didn't talk to you." I can't help but smile, starting to tear up a little.

"You should have heard the speech he gave me. Soooo romantic." My mum beams and he blushes ever so slightly. "But I'm so, so happy for you both! I honestly thought you weren't going to marry for years, Megs, or even at all." I laugh and roll my eyes. "But then seeing you with Chris I knew it wouldn't be long." She adds, making both Chris and I smile. "Just don't get knocked up. Give that a few years." She jokes and the both of us laugh.

"Thanks, mum. Noted..."

"I'm serious! Have some fun first. Be adventurous. Enjoy that one willy you'll have the rest of your life." Chris bursts out laughing, eyes wide.

"Oh my god, mother!" She laughs again. "He's right here!"

"I don't even know what to say. Oh my gahd!" Chris says, trying to control his giggles.

"I'm very glad to see you've still got your beard, Chris." She says, raising her eyes playfully.

"Muuuum." She laughs again. "You, go. Go, go, go." I demand, shoving Chris out of view. He laughs.
