I wake up in the same waiting room chair I fell asleep in. I see that HERO, KEL, and POLLY are here.
Along with...
I blink a couple of times, making sure what I'm seeing is real.
AUBREY.
And...
KIM is there as well, with an arm around her, as if to protect her if I decide to stab her again.
Even stranger, there are tears in KIM'S eye, and AUBREY is fully crying.
AUBREY leans into KIM as she begins to cry harder. KIM runs her fingers through the crying girl's long vibrant pink hair.
KEL is no longer crying, but is still visibly sad, with red eyes. HERO is still crying, and his eyes are even more bloodshot than KEL'S. POLLY looks the worst, with mascara staining her tan skin, and her hair messy.
I stand up, and awkwardly join KEL, HERO, and POLLY.
Out of nowhere, POLLY hugs me.
"I can't believe this happened." She tells me. "He seemed so happy you came out, I thought his newfound joy was from you but... I guess it was from feeling relieved."
"Is he... dead?" I ask.
"No." KEL tells me immediately.
HERO explains more. "BASIL is going to have some serious scars, and a lot of pain, and... may be mentally evaluated which could lead to certain problems... but he is alive. He woke up briefly last night, and he said he wanted to see you before even acknowledging his actions."
"Is he up right now?" I ask, happy that he's alive.
"Um... I think so. Would you like to go see him?" HERO says.
I nod enthusiastically.
I go up to the room BASIL is located in.
"SUNNY!" He says softly as he sees me.
Tears rush down my cheeks.
"Why did you do that?" I ask.
He looks surprised by my remark.
I start to cry harder, choking on my tears.
"Why didn't you talk to me?" I say. "Why did you do that? Why? Why didn't you talk to me, somebody, anybody?! Why did you think this of all things was a good idea?"
My tears over take me.
"SUNNY... I'm sorry." He says, his voice rough.
"Sorry doesn't fucking cut it." I tell him, my voice soft and light, but cold regardless.
BASIL tries to explain. "I shouldn't have tried. I didn't think you'd care, honestly, I thought you'd hate me..."
"BASIL, I know I stayed in my house for four fucking years, but can you name any interaction we've had where I've been mean to you?"
He pauses.
"I love you, SUNNY."
"I love you two."
"I love you three."
"I love you four."
"I love you more."
"No you don't."
