and just like that. we were parents. people aren't kidding when they say your world turns upside down. you go from Booz to bottles, from sleep to sleep DEPRIVED, from freedom to formula (I've learned to make a bottle in 2 minutes, powder, water, microwave and everything)

Currently, my son is 2 weeks & 3 days old. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was born so small. And I just love him to pieces.

Demi is a great mother. I also love her to pieces. The past few months being away were worth it to what I came home to. I love walking in the door to my beautiful wife and handsome son.

Suddenly, something clicked on my head as I thought about where I was in the army.

As I rocked Tristan to sleep, I thought about what I'd told my captain.

"the real heroes are the ones that don't make it home." I then flashed back to my friend Corey jones. (a/n: refer to chapter 5 and 7. old storyline being brought back)

I remember before he passed in my arms, he too was excited to go home and meet his son. He didn't get to see his son be born like me, or even meet him at all.

I'm lucky I did. But one name stuck out to me.

(flashback)

"Alyssa Jones. Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tell her I l-love her..." Corey said as he fell into an internal sleep.

(end of flashback)

I gave a fellow soldier my word, that I'd find his family. it wasn't fair that he had to go down like that, & that his wife was absent of a husband, & his son was absent of a father.

i knew what i should do.
