Chapter 28: A new Partner

(Ayanokoji POV)

The boat dropped us off at an uncovered grassy range. With no trees or any other covering, our class learned very quickly just how hot this island was.
We were surrounded by small and medium sized grassy hills.
As soon as we got off the boat, we were told the horn would sound in around 15 minutes, giving us some time to get under the trees and to find a good hiding place for Hirata.
"Jeez...why did we have to get dropped off here?"
"I feel like I'm going to die...and we just started this..."

Horikita looked over to the group of girls complaining.
"Don't forget, we could be here for two weeks total."
"Two weeks?!"

They seem to have forgotten that part.
"We need to find the other classes hiders quickly if we want to leave sooner. So make sure to put more effort into this part of the exam."

Horikita used our current conditions to convince people in the class to give there all in this part of the exam.
Not a bad strategy, but eventually, the heat may overtake them.

Our class decided to fast walk, not jog, to the forest area.
Chiaki stuck close to me most of the way there.
I honestly think she should excuse herself from this part of the exam because of her condition, and I tried to convince her of that.
She disregarded the statements, and insisted on coming.

Horikita walked alone to the side of everyone else.
Our group may have trouble coming together since Yuuichi isn't here.
I haven't made a big impression on Horikita yet, and she seems to be indifferent to me.
That may be for the best though.

When we arrived to the forest, we checked our phones to see the time we had left.
We were forbidden from calling anyone except the school, or doing anything thing else with them.

"We made it."

The whole class was already tired at this point.
I had to wonder if this was on purpose from the schools part.
Did other students get this treatment, or just Class D?
I decided to put the thought away for now.
We had 7 minutes until the horn went off.

"So, where do we hide Hirata?"

We had come to the forest area...but it was rather open.
"Uh..."
The class started to notice there really was no where nearby to hide someone.

Suddenly, Chiaki fell on my shoulder.
"Woah!"

The rest of the class came rushing over.
"Is she okay Ayanokoji?"

I picked her up, and leaned her against a nearby tree.
She was breathing hard.
"I think she may be a bit dehydrated."

Hirata came rushing over, and checked her forehead.
"We need to get her water. Can someone order water from their phone?"

"Wait Hirata."

Everyone looked over to me.
"We need to find a hiding spot for you first, if we leave you like this, you will be forced to stay here once the horn goes off."

"But-"

"I'll take Chiaki back to the starting point. You go hide yourself."

The whole class pondered for a moment.
Hirata stared me in the eyes for a few seconds, before nodding his head.
"Okay, take care of her please."
"Of course."

I started to pick her up.
"Wait Ayanokoji! Will you be okay?"

Sudo rushed over to me. Despite being a hot headed person, he still seemed to care about a fellow classmate.
