Chapter 41 : Kim Jae's Side Story (5)

"Hyunsuk oppa," Hyunsuk turns his head as he heard his name called out. He weakly drags his feet, his body feeling heavy, it seems like the entire weight of this world is on him. His exhausted body fall into the arm of that person when he finally reached the other person.

"Hyuna," he said, his voice sounding hoarse and tired. Hyuna quickly embraces her older brother, holding onto him tightly for comfort.

"How's Jae oppa?" she asked softly while rubbing circles to his back. She could feel Hyunsuk's body shake violently from a sob. The tears that have gathered in Hyunsuk's eyes were falling onto her neck. There are no words out, just a sobbing sound escaping his throat.

"Jae... Jae hyung isn't doing very well. W...what should I do, Hyuna?" He said, his voice cracking. His grip around her tightens even more as he whimpers onto Hyuna's shoulder. Hyuna can hear how broken her elder brother sounds. She immediately hugged him even tighter. Hyuna knew all too well how much Jae meant to her elder brother. She can only pray that Jae will be okay.

"Don't worry. Everything will be alright, oppa," Hyuna tried her best to keep up her comforting words. However, deep inside she also feels worried for his brother's fiance. The tears start to form in Hyuna's eyes once. This whole situation is so painful.

"Hyunsuk," Hyunsuk quickly turns his head towards the sounds of the familiar voice. They're Jae's parents. Jae's mom comes running towards them with her eyes red and puffy from the excessive crying. Seeing her comes towards them, Hyunsuk pulls away from Hyuna and embraces Jae's mom. His sobs become louder, and they soon turn into wails.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I'm sorry," he keeps repeating as he continues to cry. Hyuna watches as she slowly approaches her dad who just stood there with a concerned face while her mom keeps crying uncontrollably in the waiting chair by the hallway. Jae's mom couldn't say a word, she tightly hugged Hyunsuk's trembling body as her tears kept pouring down on her cheeks. She had it hard, but the person who loves his son dearly was suffering through it. She brings her hand to Hyunsuk's head patting it gently.

"Please, don't apologize anymore. It's not your fault," she finally said, between her sobs. Hyunsuk tightens his embrace as he heard those words, making him cry even harder. How can he not blame himself when he's the one that keeps urging Jae to go to the place where it all happened when he insisted on not wanting to go?

"Excuse me, Jae's family?" A doctor walked towards them. All eyes turn toward the doctor.  His face looks solemn, showing some signs of concern.

"Yes?" Jae's mom replied.

The doctor put on a grim expression on his face. He didn't even dare to lift his head, not daring to meet anyone's eyes. The doctor takes a glance at Jae's mom before he continues talking.

"27th May 20xx, 2:23 a.m, Kim Jae is pronounced dead due to excessive blood loss," the doctor spoke and permit himself to leave. Hyunsuk's legs gave way and he collapses on the floor in a lifeless state. His heart beats heavily, almost breaking his chest apart. Jae's parents fell on their knees with Hyunsuk. Hyunsuk didn't know what to say or do. His mind is completely blank and his mouth doesn't seem to be able to form a single coherent sentence. He just plopped there, and let out a loud wail. Everyone started to cry. They couldn't believe that Jae was gone.

Hyunsuk lost someone who means everything to him. "You're lying!" He suddenly yelled. He wasn't able to control the sudden burst of anger which came out of nowhere. "Jae hyung is still alive! He must still be alive!!" He couldn't believe it, he wouldn't believe it. No matter what, Jae's still alive. He surely waiting for him in that room with a smile saying that's a prank. He'll find a reason to joke about this again.

"Hyunsuk..." Jae's mother said, "You need to calm yourself." Hyunsuk looks at her. "Ma'am tell me that's a lie. There's no way he's dead right now. He must still be alive, please tell me, tell us. Tell us that's a joke. Please tell us he's still alive." His eyes started to water as he begs his mother to tell him that Jae's still there.
