The distance between San Diego and Seattle was around 1300 miles, around twenty hours driving through I-5N. They took four days though, because they stopped at Lincoln City in Oregon to surf. This coastal has miles of sandy beaches with an exposed reef that features consistent waves. Known for its powerful 6 to 8 feet swells, they decided to stop and spend a few days at a camping camp in some sort of honeymoon. From there it was a four-and half-hour drive through the same Interstate. With their truck filled with boxes and bags, tired of the long drive, it was at the sound of The Who Baba O' Riley that they started seeing Seattle at a distance as they were arriving to their final destination. Driving through the Bridge Lake Union, they started having a panorama of their new home. On their right side, Seattle rose magnificently from the waters of Lake Union. The Space Needle stood out, high and majestic. The high buildings agglomerated orderly calling for attention. The suburbs surrounded downtown in shades of gray for the day was gloomy and brown for the thousands of trees were naked. Winter wasn't very kind on nature. It shadowed what would be an intense view of blue and green with millions of other different colors from the urban jungle.
"We're here." Eddie rested his hand on Eiry's leg and took a deep breath. Eiry was looking out at the window and he raised his foot from the accelerator. "The view is amazing..."
"Uh-uh." She murmured, still looking outside. Arms crossed around her chest and so many doubts in her mind. She didn't know what their life there would be. What they would become.
"Are you ok?" Eddie insisted because since they started seeing the first signs announcing Seattle that he started hearing her heavy breathing mixed with the radio that was playing low. Then, she asked to play some music louder.
"I am." She looked at him then and smiled. "You know me... I'm just..." Eiry shrugged and didn't finish her thought.
Her head turned to the view again. A few drops of water started to batter on the window and despite the rain, some boats were crossing the lake. The rain becoming more intense as seconds passed and Eiry giggled.
"It must rain a lot here." She turned to Eddie again.
"So, they say." Eddie smiled back rather quickly and then turned his eyes to the road once more. "I need your help now..." He told her as they started to enter the city.
"Oh..." Eiry grabbed her bag and looked for Jeff's instructions. On the phone, he had given them all the instructions on how to arrive to their new apartment. Eiry opened her notebook and then looked at Eddie. "You have to turn right as soon as we leave this road."
"Are you sure?" Eddie looked at her by the corner of his eye but saw her roll hers.
"I'm sure." Eiry confirmed. Then, she tapped his leg. "Stop doubting me!" They laughed.
"Oh yeah..." Eddie laughed. "... because I can trust you. I know where we are, boo." He imitated her voice which made her laugh loud.
"I don't talk like that!" Eiry exclaimed laughing.
"And I did what you said and we ended up at a place two hours away from our destination. Remember that?" Eiry started tapping him. "Don't hit me for telling the truth."
"I made a mistake!" Eiry sat back and looked out at the street again.
"Yeah... it deviated us a few miles..." Eddie still mocked her and she smiled, shaking her head. "Quite some traffic." He added, noticing the agglomerate of vehicles getting bigger.
As they entered the city and the rain got thicker and heavier creating a monotonous melody as it beaten on the roof of their truck, and the traffic also intensified. Adding to that, it was the end of the afternoon and many people were leaving their works to come back home. Cars lined up in endless rows and rolled very slow. People running around on the sidewalks or crossing streets in search for a shelter from the rain.
