Eiry heard him explain over and over again and nothing of what he was saying made any sense. Though she was not mad at him, it was starting to get on her nerves. He was changed. In any other occasion, he would apologize and show regret and instead, he was just bringing excuse after excuse for his behavior. When she told him in their earlier conversation that he turned aggressive, she never meant physical and yet Rae showed her otherwise. Eddie rambled, stuttered while she just watched the night scenario in front of her behind their window. His voice was even becoming distant as her thoughts became louder. At some point, Eiry frowned and shook her head.
"Stop!" She asked him, trying to remain calm. "If it was not a big deal why didn't you tell me when we talked?"
"I didn't...." Eddie stuttered again and couldn't finish his sentence.
"You didn't tell me, Ed!" Her eyebrow curled as she said so. "You didn't tell me because you knew I'd scold you."
"I was nervous!" He paced around in his bedroom in Paris. "I was feeling terrible for sending you back home. I was at a terrible place!" Eiry took a deep breath and ran one of her hands over her ponytail. "I swear Eiry. I regretted my decision the second you left. I told you this and the guy only made things worse."
"You were drunk." She breathed. "If you weren't drunk you wouldn't respond to his complaints with a punch on his face."
"I was nervous!" Eddie affirmed once more. "I was leaving you message after message without any return and the guy came here complaining about the noise..."
"What do you think, Ed?" Eiry turned around and walked in the direction of the couch. "Do you think a flight from London to Seattle takes two hours?" She sat, feeling her head spinning lightly. "Oh..." She moaned and frowned at the same time. Eddie perceived her lament.
"What's the matter?" He asked her.
"I'm just a little dizzy..." Eiry pulled her feet up on the couch and curled. "You can't go around and punch people." She continued trying to ignore how nauseated she was feeling. "Now he's going to sue you!"
"Forget that for a bit..." Eddie sat on the edge of the bed seeing heavy rain battering on the window and blurring his Parisian scenario. "Maybe you should call Rae to stay with you tonight, love."
"I'm ok." She breathed. For a second she regretted she told him she was not feeling well. It would preoccupy him.
"It's the second time that you complain on the phone." Eddie argued. "Have you been feeling like that the entire day?"
"No. Just after lunch." She explained. Eiry reached for her glass of sparkling water and took a sip. "We went to see the house Stone and Rae are buying and then we met Cami for lunch. We went to have curry but just the scent..." Eiry made a face that he couldn't see and shivered. "I almost didn't eat... maybe I am still altered from the flight or something."
"Go to bed early today." His voice soft and full of tenderness made her smile and almost forget his misdemeanor. "Maybe you'll feel better tomorrow."
"Promise me you'll drink less, boo." Eiry was truly worried about him. "I'm so worried about you."
"I don't want you to..." His voice a gasp. His eyes on the floor as if he was ashamed. "But it helps me cope..." Eiry closed her eyes as if a knife had been carved in her heart.
"It doesn't, boo. You know this. It's a false coping, babe." Her voice also less accusative and more sympathetic.
"Can we change the subject?" Eddie ran his fingers through his curls, pulling them away from his face. "I know what I did was wrong, but I'd like to change the subject, love. I'm tired..." He paused and sighed. "I'm..." Eddie shook his head. "I just wanna talk about something else."
