"EIRY!" Eddie yelled and jerked as Jeff still held him by his waist to prevent him from going inside a house whose front was burning. "Let me go, Jeff..." His voice shaky and so full of pain.
"You can't go in there..." Jeff breathed with his eyes full of tears. "I'm sorry...I'm sorry..."
"Eddie..." Mike approached them to try to comfort his friend if that was possible. It was a pain all of them were feeling, but nothing compared to his despair. "We can't let you go in there..." Mike pointed at the house. "It's impossible to go in."
"You have to let me go..." Eddie insisted. His voice hoarse.
His tears ran down his cheeks and his entire body was shaking. Jeff was running out of strength to stop him. He became a force almost impossible to control. He had a moment where he fell to his knees, maybe processing that Eiry wasn't able to leave the house as everyone else, but after, he wanted to go inside again and had to be held. No one said anything after. They were cold and waiting for the firefighters to arrive. One of the neighbors came to given them blankets so they could wrap themselves around it, but Eddie had refused his.
"She's inside..." Eddie gasped and sobbed at the same time. "She's inside that hell... I need to go get her..."
The flames were high and hellish. They danced and undulated as the cold breeze caressed them. The cracking of the wood was loud. Even at the other side of the street, they could feel the heat. The more it burned the more they had to step away and Eddie had to be dragged. Stone held Rae tightly against his body not because they were sharing a blanket but because she was crying too. Eiry was her best friend. The terror everyone was feeling that moment was indescribable.
Eddie heaved. His eyes blurred from the tears and stinging from the smoke at the same time. His heart was thundering dangerously inside his rib cage. Low growls escaped through his clenched jaw. A mix of panic, fear and rage washing over him. It was then that he saw the high stone wall to Cameron's backyard. He ran his hands over his eyes trying to see it better. It was twice his size or more, but the fire was not burning that part of the house yet, though the black smoke around it was intense. He could climb it. He could... he had climbed higher hills.
"Let me go!" He yelled at Jeff. "Let me go, Jeff!" Eddie jerked and Jeff tightened his grip. "NO!" Eddie yelled really loud and jerked so violently that he managed to free himself.
"Eddie..." Jeff started running after him, but before he even noticed, and much to everyone's surprise, Eddie started climbing the immense stone wall like it was a simple stepping stone. "Are you crazy?" Jeff yelled at him, looking up and feeling the heat too close.
"You're gonna kill yourself..." Mike approached trying to make him come down. "Eddie... it's dangerous."
"He's crazy..." Stone whispered perplexed with his inhuman agility.
As Eddie climbed higher and higher, his hands and feet finding footholds on the rough surface, they held their breath in anticipation. It seemed as though time stood still as he neared the top.
"He's gonna kill himself..." Stone uttered. "He's gonna kill himself..." He repeated feeling his heart beating incredibly fast.
"You really don't know him." Rae added sniffing. Stone looked at her quite fast and back at Eddie. His eyes showed panic. "He's done things like this and worse..."
"What?" Stone looked at her confused.
"You really don't know Eddie, Stone." Rae cleaned her eyes, feeling a hint of hope that things could turn out well in the end. "None of you know him yet."
"Eiry!" Eddie yelled as he reached the top of the wall. The smoke barely letting him see anything, but the house was not burning on the backyard as he predicted. "Love!" He yelled.
