"...shit." Tony commented eloquently. Cap sighed in predictable frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose. Thor was shaking with barely concealed rage. Loki looked vaguely unimpressed.
"How did he escape?!" Sam finally exclaimed, motioning erratically towards the subject of their issue.
Atuma's cell was empty. Completely empty. And, completely undamaged. Completely secure by all accounts, if it weren't for the blatant lack of the prisoner that was supposed to be inside.
"Well, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise, considering the circumstances." Loki shrugged.
"Do not pretend you saw this coming, loki!" Thor bellowed, "How can he possibly have managed to escape?!"
"...I think he teleported." Bruce said slowly, hand hovering over a nearby monitor and clearly reviewing some kind of footage. He blinked, rubbed his eyes—probably still groggy from de-hulking, Tony thought,-- and prodded the display again. "And Atuma can't do that on his own, he had outside help. We've seen the cabal use tech like this before in other locations; you have to have a ping device already set up and with you."
Cap sighed deeply, sounding angry. "I knew it."
"So it was a distraction." Clint tsked, "Not the end of the world though, right? We've tracked teleportation before."
"Hence, the distraction." Natasha frowned.
Tony nodded. "Fishhead most likely busted joint the second Dracula's forces attacked. By the time we got back, he was home free, and it would be too late for us to be able to triangulate his destination, which means," Tony continued in a stride, "-That he wanted us to bring him back to the tower—no other reason he'd intentionally let himself get captured and have a get-away already set up. The question is why. What did he want? What did he gain."
"Jarvis." Cap said seriously, "Is anything missing from the tower? Files, weapons, anything?"
"Nothing has been taken from the tower." Javis said calmly. Sam exhaled in relief, then abruptly sucked his breath back in, holding his breath as Jarvis continued. "However, I regret to inform you that someone has finally escaped."
"What?!" Clint turned, "I thought you locked him up, isn't that what the protocol is-"
"Show me." Loki demanded, stepping forward and practically shoving clint to the side.

A few moments later, the Avengers and Loki were touring a long exhibit of destruction; What used to be the hallway to the training room and gym.
Used to be.
"How the hell-?" Clint began, doing a thorough 360, but also looking very pointedly at the mutilated remains of the three-thousand-pound steel door that had been effectively ripped to pieces and then paper-folded into a barricade.
