A new love interest
Ruth listened as Thomas shared details about himself. He was very charismatic and smooth. Ruth was not naive and knew he was really explaining it all for her benefit. Each time she tried to avoid his eyes, she could tell the whole time he kept watching her.
"I am a business owner and entrepreneur for several businesses he admitted. I own two restaurants, I also have investments in gyms, golf courses, and hotels," he continued. Ruth was not at all impressed with his success but with his heart, values, and standards. She always believed the true nature of a man was shown in his action or deeds. Thomas could see Ruth was not at all impressed with his accomplishments. He could tell Ruth was the type of woman who was impressed with integrity and substance. Serenity hated how Ruth was so quiet when this guy clearly had eyes for her. "And you ladies. What do you do?" Thomas asked. Serenity knew Thomas was trying to find out more about Ruth. "I'll go first," Serenity said ensuring that Ruth did not remain mute to providing answers to his questions.
"I am a secretary at the Guardian," Serenity began turning the conversation over to Ruth. "I am a journalist at The Guardian," Ruth responded almost annoyed with Serenity pushing the conversation. Ruth forced a smile and hoped he would leave soon. Thomas felt Ruth's apprehension but yet he wanted to know everything about her. "Please, excuse me a minute while I go to the restroom," Serenity said intentionally getting up. Ruth knew she was leaving her stranded and forced to communicate with Thomas. Ruth wanted to scream as Serenity walked away leaving her in the hot seat.
"Ruth, would I be too forward if I asked you out on a date?" Thomas asked focusing on her beautiful brown eyes. Ruth smiled not wanting to be rude. She was surprised it did not take him long to make a move on her. "I don't know you well enough to go on a date. Perhaps, we can talk on the phone and get to know each other," she said not surrendering to his request. "I would like to make you comfortable. But please give me the opportunity to get to know you," Thomas said with a huge grin. She gave him one of her business cards and he did the same. Thomas Caldwell was not giving up so easily. He was convinced this beautiful woman would eventually date him. Thomas felt his heartbeat rapidly as he looked at her. It had been a long time since he was so intrigued by a woman. He could see himself falling for this lovely woman.
When Serenity finally returned to the table Thomas had already excused himself. Ruth gave her a kick under the table. "What?!", Serenity laughed playing innocent. "Why did you leave me all alone with him?" Ruth glared at her. "The man was totally into you. I thought I would help the process along," Serenity teased her. "I can't believe you did that," Ruth continued. "Did he ask you out? Did you get his number?" Serenity inquired trying to see if her plan worked out. "I am not talking to you for a long time. Let's go," Ruth said still angry with her. As they got up to leave Serenity tried to hug her. "You know I love you," she smiled trying to get back in Ruth's good book.
