You ran towards the left tunnel, yelling for Ghost to move along. More bullets flew by you, as you ran as fast as you could through the tunnel with Ghost right beside you.
Eventually, you reached another crossroads. This time, the tunnels were wider, giving you a chance to conceal yourself behind one of the objects. You created a fake decoy, throwing one of your items on the ground in a way your pursuers are sure to see it before you hid inside the other tunnel with Ghost and waited until your pursuers reached the crossroads.
You saw how one of them found your item, yelling for his companions to inform them of his findings. They ran after the fake decoy, and you turned to Ghost, motioning for him to move forward as you checked the crossroad for any enemies that were left behind just in case. When you were sure there was none left, you quickly left with Ghost right after you.
The sound of water running roared through the tunnel, notifying you that you were close to the exit. And that was right, in about 3 minutes you were standing next to Ghost, staring down at the river that ran through the forest that you were in. The tunnel was connected to the river.
Ghost tried to reach out to Laswell again to no avail, you were still in the middle of nowhere.
"Let's keep moving," he said.
"If we stay here they might catch up to us, let's find a high point to check for a signal.""Roger that L.T." you replied as the two of you walked along the river, trying to find a tree high enough, or city lights in the distance. But after some time, it was clear that you weren't near any big trees or cities.
"Let's rest for a bit, we have been running around like crazy all night. It's easier to navigate through the forest when the sun is up." Ghost stated as he leaned against a tree and closed his eyes. You followed his movement, leaning against a tree yourself.
Despite all the training you went through, you still felt worn out. The thought of being at base right now seemed like heaven. If you didn't go through that training period, you would probably be long gone by now.
"You look tired" a hint of concern laced his voice as he opened one eye and looked at you.
"Yeah well, this is the first time I had to run like that for my life." you chuckled.
"There is a first for everything" he affirms.
"How was your first time then?" you asked as you turned to face him.
"Why ask me if you already know?" he answered with another question.
"Is that going to be your answer to every question I ask about you? I know your general backstory, but not the details," you explained as Ghost turned his head to look at you, and for a moment, just for a moment, you could have sworn you saw a small light in his eyes. He took a deep breath before turning away from you.
"You should rest while you still can, we have a long way to walk tomorrow." he changed the topic.
"Alright," you mumbled.
The rest of the night was silent. Dawn eventually painted the sky, turning the dark night into a breezy morning.
"Let's get moving" Ghost ordered.
"yes sir" you replied.
After hours of walking, your radio finally caught a signal. Laswell's voice echoed through the radio, and you gave Ghost a glad look.
He quickly gave her a brief about all that happened, and then gave her the location you were at. Since you were surrounded by trees, it was impossible to send an exfil vehicle to it. Instead, you were told to move up ahead until you reached the ocean, and that's what you did. Eventually reaching the exfil helicopter, your personal items were already packed and inside, so it was a flight straight to the base.
Once you landed, you were greeted by Laswell, who seemed to be in distress. You shared a look with Ghost before following her to the meeting room.
"I know you both just came back, but I need you to meet up with Soap and Gaz in Urzikstan," She said.
"Did something wrong happen to them?" you asked, now worried.
"No, thanks to you, we avoided the trap that was set for them, but the intel we found there directed us to another safe house in Urzikstan. This one is heavily guarded so I have to send you both for support," she explained.
"Understood," Ghost said.
"Rest up today and tomorrow, you will join them in two days." the meeting was wrapped up with that, and you went to the room you were in before the first mission.
"This isn't going to end anytime soon, is it?" you thought to yourself as you laid down on the bed, slowly drifting off to sleep.
