The dim light shone down on the table as everyone stood around it. Shepherd was successfully assassinated, leaving Makarov as the last target. Price and Gaz made it to the safehouse you were in, leaving Soap as the last member to come yet.
However, the situation was too dire to wait for Soap any longer, therefore you agreed to meet up with him in the next location. Yuri had an inside friend who would tell him about Makarov's movement and plans, but he was caught, and Makarov was now well aware that he was being targeted.
Price had both of his hands on the table, staring down at the map in concentration. Everybody was on edge, having to go from place to place, mission after mission with no breaks was starting to take its toll. And with you now not knowing what's going to happen next, they had to be extra careful with their planning.
Makarov might be a crazy fucker, but he was smart and cunning. He knows what he's doing, and he has no problem sacrificing innocent people for his goals. The base was in the middle of a city, any wrong move, and not only would you be endangering civilians, but you might cause an even bigger war than the original one.
"Fucking hell..." Price cussed to himself as he continued to think. Laswell was on the line as well, but it seemed like she had nothing to say either.
"I have a plan, but it's crazy, and it may not succeed either." Yuri broke the silence.
"Well, let's hear it then," Price beckoned Yuri to speak his thoughts.
"While Nikolai's forces try to drive Makarov to the riverside, you will be taking overwatch from the other side. The base is connected to a small port so he most likely will flee using a boat. However, two of your teammates will take over watch from the front, in case he tries to escape using either a helicopter or a car. The issue is that the entire area is crawling with his supporters, it's going to be difficult just sneaking one person in, let alone a mini army." He took a deep breath.
"The reason it may not succeed is that he may have already changed bases. If he contacted the Russian army saying that the enemy is planning an attack on the base and we show up, they will think we are looking for war." He looked around the room at each one of you.
"However, I don't think he will do that." he finished his speech with that. Everyone was confused at the last announcement.
"Why would you think that?" Price asked.
"He hates you, the one who killed Zakhaev, and he will do anything to avenge him himself. While Makarov is smart, he's also overly confident. We can use that to our aid." An explosion boomed in the distance, and the whole building started shaking.
"What the fuck is going on?" Gaz hissed as he looked at Yuri, who looked just as confused.
"Were you being followed??" Price yelled. This was the first time you saw him this angry.
Nikolai's voice echoed through the radio all of a sudden, interrupting the fight that was about to begin.
"YOU NEED TO GET OUT NOW, THEY WON'T STOP UNTIL THE BUILDING IS ONE WITH THE GROUND." his voice was lagging, but the panic was clear. You shared a look with Ghost before deciding to talk.
"This is not the time for a fight, we need to get out now Captain." you tried not to show how anxious you really were, but your voice failed you by cracking at the end.
Price said nothing, grabbing his weapon instead, he signalled for the team to prepare to make a run for it toward the valley. It seemed like the enemy was approaching from the south, leaving you with an open space to escape.
"TRY TO MAKE IT TO THE CHENAB RIVER, I WILL PICK YOU UP FROM THERE," you watched as Nikolai's helicopter flew over your head and towards the river.
"LET'S GO, MOVE YOUR ASSES" Price roared as he dashed out of the door toward the trees that covered the area. The Valley was full of trees, giving you coverage as you descended it toward the river as fast as you could. Gunshots could be heard in the distance as you grew closer and closer to the rendezvous point.
Finally, the helicopter appeared in sight. A rope attached to it was thrown your way, and one by one you made it inside. Just as Nikolai shifted the helicopter to the side, an RPG shot missed the helicopter by a hair.
There, at the top of the valley, stood a person aiming an RPG at you. Quickly taking one of the snipers in the gearbox, Ghost aimed at the guy, killing him with one shot. However, moments before he died, he pulled the trigger, and now a flying RPG shot was heading your way.
