The very early morning consisted of Enid scrambling around trying to make sure she had everything she needed for her return to Nevermore. They were scheduled for a flight first thing in the morning so she didn't have much time to waste. Thankfully she had been preparing in the weeks prior, but she still had to double and triple-check that she had everything she wanted to bring with her. Most of her things had already been shipped to the school including her collection of stuffed animals that would be waiting in their room when they arrived. Clothing wasn't much of an issue due to the school uniforms so she really only needed casual clothes to wear in her and Wednesday's room along with outfits for the weekend. Once she had finished checking her suitcase and backpack for the fourth time she headed down the stairs with her things.

Wednesday had still been fast asleep, with her head snuggled against Enid's chest when Enid had awoken. Knowing the girl had been partaking in "extracurricular" activities late into the night she had decided it was okay to give her just a few more minutes to sleep in while Enid prepared her things. Once her things had been placed by the door she made her way into the kitchen the sweet aroma of fresh pancakes filling her with joy. A delightfully splendid idea came to her as she was scraping the fluffy golden pancakes onto two separate plates.

Her father and brothers were quietly discussing something at the kitchen table, Enid was positive it had something to do with what Wednesday had been up to last night though she wasn't paying much attention to what they were talking about. She set the plates down onto a tray and set about filling two cups with ice-cold water. Once everything was set onto the tray she tried desperately to make a swift exit before she was noticed.

"Enid, come over here for a minute." Her father instructed her patting the seat beside him with his hand. Not wanting to make a big deal out of it she hesitantly shuffled over placing the tray on the table. "There's been some bad news regarding your mother. You might want to take a seat." Enid did as she was told pulling out the chair to sit in.

"Your mother, she was." He took a deep rattling breath as he tried to reign in his emotions. "She was attacked last night. Your mother's in the hospital with a few broken bones and a stab wound to her stomach. By the grace of Fenrir it seems she's in stable condition." His voice was shaky and his eyes glistened with tears. Despite their separation and Esther's treatment of Enid, it was clear her father still cared deeply for her mother. Even though he pushed her away to protect his daughter from her abuse.

Enid took a moment to gather her thoughts. She was unsure of how to respond to her distraught father, without her seeming uncaring or even worse like she already knew about the attack. They sat in silence Enid unable to produce a proper reaction. No reaction seemed to be good enough for her father as he cleared his throat.

"I know it's a lot to take in especially since you fly out today. I can give you updates on her condition if you want, or you can stay here for a few weeks instead. I know you don't have the best relationship with your mother, but it's still a scary thought to have almost lost her." Murray meekly offered before taking a sip of his coffee.

"No, I think I'd rather be back at school, help get my mind off of it and all. Do you know if they have any idea who did it?" She asked a pit forming in her stomach nervous that the authorities might be on to Wednesday.

"Officially speaking they haven't named anyone, but I heard from Jean that they found Clark's fingerprints on the hilt of the knife." He looked her dead in the eyes his face full of worry. "Are you sure you want to go back? I don't mind letting you continue your break, and be with us if you need support."

Enid looked at her father and brothers and then at the tray with the plates of pancakes on it. "I think I'll be fine. I've got a good support network at Nevermore, and I really don't want to be even further behind than I already am with our unexpected break." With that, she grabbed the tray and began to make her way out of the kitchen.
