A Wo(e)nderful Night to Wolf Out

The night air was cool and the gentle breeze bit at her exposed skin. Enid rubbed her shoulders as the light, and airy clothes she was wearing did not help keep her warm in the slightest. Enid's father and brothers were on either side of her, the rest of her pack just past them. She could see her mother staring her down from a few feet away. Enid shivered though she wasn't sure if it was the cold air getting to her, her mother's unflinching gaze upon her, or a mix of the two. The clouds that were occupying the night's sky slowly began to dissipate allowing the light of the full moon to find its way to the earth. The sound of bones crunching could be heard coming from the werewolves as they were transforming, into the wolf that lurked within them. Every last one of them except Enid who was still standing waiting, hoping, and praying to transform, but it never happened. Her mother began making her way towards her towering over Enid's human form.

"Still unable to wolf out? How pathetic. I'm glad I disowned you as a daughter." Esther snarled at her, her friends from the sewing club were howling with laughter sounding more like hyenas than wolves from behind her.

Fallon and Roman looked down at her with pity in their eyes, a wolf who was unable to transform was no wolf at all. Her father slowly and steadily walked over to her and gave her a pat on the back. His strength was far above her own and the force of the pat knocked Enid to her knees. Enid turned around searching for comfort in Wednesday. The young psychic however offered none at all, shaking her head in disapproval before walking back inside the house. Enid fell from her knees onto the ground tears streaming down her face. She scrambled to cover her ears as the hideous laughter from her pack engulfed her.

When Enid opened her eyes, her vision was full of blurry soft black hair as she slowly began to wake up from her slumber. She blinked a few times and rubbed her eyes with the palm of her hand. She could feel the weight of an arm laying over her, making it difficult to perform even the smallest of movements without risking disturbing the person laying beside her. Wednesday was more curled up into her than laying beside her, but Enid just enjoyed the presence of the other girl. It was something that rarely if ever happened before Wednesday had flown out to San Francisco with how focused she had been on solving the murders around Nevermore. Now they spent almost every waking and sleeping moment right beside each other.

Enid was content to lay in the bed stroking Wednesday's dark hair for the rest of eternity. She didn't know why but despite the fact that the other girl was all edges, laying beside her helped Enid relax and feel at peace. Back at Nevermore Wednesday was always awake before Enid ever woke up, and most on days she would be already prepared for the day ahead by the time Enid was getting out of bed. This was another side of Wednesday that few ever got to see and Enid relished in the fact that she was one of the lucky few that got to see it. Enid was still softly petting Wednesday's hair when the girl began to stir from her slumber.

"mmhm... If you tell anyone about this I'll have your head as a trophy displayed on my wall." Wednesday groggily threatened, but made no attempts to move away from her touch.

"Whatever you say." Enid moved in to kiss the top of Wednesday's head only stopping once she realized what she was doing.

What's wrong with you, pull yourself together Enid.

The stress of hoping to wolf out again tonight was really getting to Enid, to the point that it was causing her to do and say things she didn't mean. Despite the fact she was planning on never coming back to the pack once she turned eighteen and only planning to keep in touch with her father and brothers. She was still on edge in hopes her wolfing out to save Wednesday hadn't just been some fluke.

"Relax you've already transformed once you can do it again. And in the inconceivable chance that you can't and anyone makes fun of you I'll kill them. Their deaths will be slow and painful" Wednesday offered up her support, at least Enid hoped it was her way of being supportive.
