The night of the full moon was approaching rapidly, and Enid was starting to get very nervous. She was thankful to have Wednesday with her to ease the feelings of dread that had been bubbling up inside her at such alarming rates these days. The mornings were always the roughest as she didn't have her friend to rely on. She was trying to get back on a schedule fit for school, while it seemed Wednesday was content to sleep the mornings away. She played with the cereal in front of her, dunking some of the small loops into the milk and watching as they quickly reemerged rising from the milky depths of the bowl.
"You uh, you feeling okay over there Ennie?" Fallon's eyebrows rose, as he let out a nervous laugh.
"I'm fine." Enid snapped back through her teeth.
Fallon's eyes went wide, spitting out the coffee he was sipping on at Enid's sudden outburst. She took a moment to breathe and collect herself. She wasn't fine, far from it in fact. She was getting antsy about the full moon that was just a few short days away.
"Sorry, I'm just so ughhh!" She screamed into her arm, as she laid her head down onto the table.
She felt a reassuring pat on the middle of her back that transitioned into soft, and slow swirling motions. Enid was content to let whoever it was continue with the soothing gesture for just a while longer. Slowly she lifted her head just enough to see her dad standing behind her, with a gentle smile on his lips.
"I figured you might get to feeling a little." He paused thinking of the correct word. "stressed today kiddo. So I thought that getting out of the house and doing something with your friend might be able to lift your mood." Her father laid down four tickets to an amusement park called Cryptland in front of her.
Enid stared at the tickets that had been laid in front of her. She counted them over and over in her head, getting the same result every time. Had her father simply forgotten there were five people in the house again?
"But there's only four tickets?" Enid looked back to her dad a small frown growing on her face.
"Ah, well sadly I wasn't able to precure time off from work. So you'll have to settle with just your brothers and friend, besides I don't think such a frightening theme park would suit an old fart like myself." He let out a soft chuckle.
A small wave of disappointment crashed into her, she could really use some good times with Wednesday and her family (At least the ones that supported her anyways.). She was glad her dad was trying to cheer her up, she just wished he could be there. Enid heard the soft patter of footsteps creeping their way down the stairs. Enid turned to face the doorway, her disappointment fading as she watched Wednesday appear from the bottom of the steps. As usual Wednesday had already gotten herself ready for the day which caused Enid's cheeks to heat up, as she was still dressed in her pajama pants and an old faded T-shirt.
"Good morning sleepy head!" Enid beamed at the dark haired girl.
"Call me that again, and it will be the last morning you live to see."
Enid gasped her hand moving to cover her mouth in mock horror. Her father and brothers all let out a soft chuckle finally having gotten used to Wednesday's false threats. Wednesday peered over Enid's shoulder into her bowl of cereal, she gave her a look of disappointment at the colorful sugary cereal that was her breakfast. Instead Wednesday grabbed a bowl and filled it with unsweetened cornflakes pouring just the smallest amount of milk into it, before sitting down beside Enid.
"Oh come on Wednesday you've gotta at least let Ennie wolf out and prove mom wrong." Roman bargained in an attempt to spare his sister, at least through the next day.
