Study Sessions Fill Me With Woe

Enid hated studying more than she hated doing chores, so she wasn't sure why she was standing before the door to Eugene's room. Until she looked to her left and was gently reminded of her reasoning. She felt her heart skip a beat at the sight of the smaller girl standing beside her. Enid shook her head slapping the sides of her face and putting on her game face, she was here to study with Wednesday not to pine over her or stare at her obsessively.

"Are you coming in or not?" Wednesday coldly asked pulling Enid's attention back to the present.

"Yep, was just lost in thought for a moment."

Wednesday's brow furrowed, leaning her head to the left like she didn't understand what Enid was saying. It looked like she was about to ask Enid what she was thinking about when Eugene came bouncing up from behind her.

"Good timing I just got the pizza rolls out of the microwave, though you might want to wait a minute before..."

Eugene looked up at Enid with wide eyes, his cheeks flushing a vibrant red. Wednesday paid him no mind as she casually sauntered beside him either too focused on getting to her task of studying or simply oblivious to her friend's not-so-subtle crush on Enid. Though Enid also thought it might be that she knew about it, but didn't care as the matter didn't concern her.

"H-hey Enid, Wednesday said you might join us but I'll be honest I thought she was joking."

"Does Wednesday ever make jokes?" It was a genuine question as Wednesday did make some jokes with Enid even if they were dark.

Eugene stood with his right thumb and index finger resting under his chin. Enid walked past him to the small table that was set up in the center of the room and took a seat beside Wednesday.

"I guess not, at least none of that kind. She typically makes dark jokes that sometimes I just have to hope are jokes and aren't her actual thoughts." He shuddered which elicited a giggle from Enid as she was all too familiar with what he was talking about.

Enid looked around the boy's room taking in its contents. Video game and movie posters lined the walls Enid recognized a few of the bigger-name movies, but there were quite a few that she had never heard of before. There were a few jars of honey randomly placed on shelves, desks, and nightstands. The things that caught her attention the most were the small figures that lined the shelves and were strewn about on pill bottles surrounded by small pots of paint and tiny paintbrushes on a rather cluttered desk. Her curiosity got the best of her as she stood from the small table and approached a shelf gently picking up one of the many uniform looking small figures that lined the shelf.

The small figure looked to be a little more than two inches tall. It had a strange helmet with what resembled flat bunny ears protruding out the top and he looked like he was charging towards something. It was a deep red with bronzy gold trim, he looked to be wielding some form of axe with the teeth of a chainsaw along with a pistol that reminded Enid of some sort of raygun. Skulls hung from chains across the figure's belt and there were two impaled on spikes that rested on what looked like some form of a backpack.

"Be careful with that."

Enid's head snapped back to Eugene. His eyes were wide beneath his glasses and his pupils were slightly dilated as he stared at Enid. Gently she placed the figure back where she found it. Eugene placed down the plate of pizza rolls in his hands as she made her way back to the table.

"Is that some sort of game piece?" Enid asked grabbing a pizza roll and playing hot potato with it in her hands until eventually, she dropped it into her lap as she hadn't waited long enough for it to cool down.

"Yeah it's for a game called Warhammer 40,000 they come unbuilt and gray, so you have to put them together and paint them."

"Wait you painted something that small? That's amazing!"
