JACKSON'S POV
The sound of her laughter tightened my heart as I realized that I didn't make her cry, I finally made her laugh most sensually.
"I love…" I stopped myself when I almost added you. I blew out a breath and grumbled, "...this!"
I carried her to the spacious place in the bathroom, laid her down on the floor, and sprawled out beside her.
We lay on our backs and tried to catch our breaths.
"Oh my goodness! This feels so good!!" She laughed.
"You are out of your mind!" I gasped.
I stared at her, amazed at all the things she did to me. I know deep down, she's still hurting, and what we just did worsened her condition, and here she is laughing in excitement.
No matter how strong she pretends to be, I know that she is broken and I think her new strategy will help me to ease her pain.
"Last night, what got you so scared? Does it have to do with your next-door neighbor's call?" I asked worriedly.
I need to help her too. Whatever made her act like that last night must've been troubling and scaring her. I took her hand and placed it on my chest.
"About that… I… Jack, can we talk about it later?" She tried to run away from telling me.
"Vera, I have been patient with you, haven't I? I know that nothing I do will make you look at me differently, nor will I be able to pay you back for your kindness to me. I just want to be of help to you in some way, don't see it as if you are bothering me or that I am prying," I goaded.
"It's actually not like that. Anyway, it is nothing to really worry about, it's probably someone trying to scare me under my nose." She replied.
"I still want to hear it," I pressed.
She threw a hand across my chest and looked intently at me.
"I didn't know there's this soft side of you. It's awesome!"
"That hasn't answered my question. Vera, we've been talking about me, let's talk about you too. I want to share your problems. You can't solve mine and expect me to ignore yours like it doesn't matter."
"Does it really matter to you?" She stroked my cheeks.
WRITER'S POV
"What makes you think it doesn't?" He returned her question.
"You know, this is the most logical conversation we've had for the few days I have known you. And today, too, we shared a bond, and I don't want to ruin this moment."
"Tell me about what discomforts you, it won't ruin this moment. Vera, I don't want to tell you that I am grateful, I want to show you, and the only way to do that is if you give me a chance to be your hero."
"I love the sound of that… hero," she whispered wearily.
Her soft snores made Jack look at her face as her fingers stopped caressing his face. Jack didn't know he was talking to himself that last minute until then.
"For real? I can't believe this!" He swore.
Jack watched her sleep for some while before he carried her to bed. He went back to the bathroom, took a quick shower, dressed up, and left.
It was easy for Jack to locate Nathan's office because it was right behind the company's tall building.
He saw the surprise in Nathan's eyes when he walked into his office and looked around as if he lost his way.
