JACKSON'S POV

I did it again. I knew that I had said those words out of anger without a second thought. She didn't have to say it to me before I knew my mistake.

If my observations are right, Vera wouldn't fidget, snap, or say any word when she fears she might cry or lose it. She would rather remain silent so a tear wouldn't drop.

There's also the nervous Vera that would keep stretching her fingers and stare down at them as if answers to everything she's curious about but afraid to ask are right there.

There's also the talking tom in her. If she wasn't angry with me, I swear she would be talking freely, demonstrating with her hands and laughing.

I wanted to apologize again. She's the first woman I have ever apologized to and accepted that I was wrong in my entire life and I wanted to do that again, but I decided to give us time to think straight.

When I drove into my compound, she came down and hurriedly went into the house. I sat back in the car and thought about my life for the past six days.

I spent an hour and a half in the car before I stepped down and went into the house. The first person I saw was Tim seated in the dining room, staring grossly at the food set on the table.

Monica stood over him trying to talk the child into eating the nonsense she made. Only God knows what kind of poison she cooked because the last time we ate a meal prepared by her, we paid a surprise visit to the hospital.

"Gosh, Jack, thank God you are here! I know this little guy listens to only you. I am trying to persuade him to eat dinner, and he's being stubborn here!" She exclaimed when she looked up and saw me.

"Dad, she wasted the groceries Miss Vera and I went to buy today. This looks like dog food!" Tim complained.

His words fetched him a slap on the back of his head from his mother. His mouth opened widely as he cried out and ran to me.

"Look at this thing? Jack, what did I tell you about teaching this boy some manners? Did he forget that I am his mother and I deserve some respect from him?!" She was infuriated.

"What shows that you are his mother? That you share a DNA with him doesn't qualify you as his mother. Monica, whether you left for good or bad, I want you to know that you died in our lives when you walked out that door and shut it behind you one year ago," I said coolly.

"Are you being so mean to me because of that slût? Oh, because she offers you her cheap and rotten body, you think she will be able to take my place in this family?!" She shouted.

"Don't you even go there again! Besides, you don't have a family here anymore! Better go now that I am still nice. I might lose it any moment from now, and you won't like it," I warned her.

"Is that a threat? Jack, you think you know me, huh? In case you forgot, I have a right to my son and you can't do anything to me unless you want me to sue you!" She laughed mockingly and went upstairs.

I hugged Tim and took him upstairs to his room. I went back to the kitchen and microwaved some food that Vera had put in the fridge. I took it to his room and he ate it delightedly.

"Miss Vera was horrified after seeing that letter from her house, I think her life is in danger. Dad, promise to help her so that she won't ever have to leave us," Tim requested while I tucked him into bed.

That is one big request, but I had to promise that he would go to sleep and stop stressing himself with adult issues that he would never understand.

When he finally fell asleep, I went into my bedroom and found Monica lying down nude in my bed.

"What's this about?" I asked angrily.

"Waiting for my husband in bed. Jack, I have missed you so much. I need to get dirty with you like before. Don't you miss those days?" She smiled provocatively.

I went close to her and bent until our foreheads pressed. "Stop wasting your time on an impossible mission. Fûck you!" I spat out and left her moping at me.

I made sure I banged the door so hard that even the bed she was lying in shook greatly. That's exactly what she did to Tim and me without blinking an eye.

I had many rooms and places to sleep and avoid Vera or anyone else until tomorrow morning, but I wasn't sure why I pushed at her door, and it opened as if she knew I was gonna come, and she left it purposely open.
