"What makes you think it doesn't?" He returned her question.

"You know, this is the most logical conversation we've had for the few days I have known you. And today too, we shared a bond and I don't want to ruin this moment."

"Tell me about what discomforts you, it won't ruin this moment. Vera, I don't want to tell you that I am grateful, I want to show you, and the only way to do that is if you give me a chance to be your hero."

"I love the sound of that… hero," she whispered wearily.

Her soft snores made Jack look at her face as her fingers stopped caressing his face. Jack didn't know he was talking to himself that last minute until then.

"For real? I can't believe this!" He swore.

Jack watched her sleep for somewhile before he carried her to bed. He went back to the bathroom, took a quick shower, dressed up and left.

It was easy for Jack to locate Nathan's office because it was right behind the company's tall building.

He saw the surprise in Nathan's eyes when he walked into his office and looked around as if he lost his way.

Nathan hurriedly conversed with a group of teenage girls grovelling over the handsome young man all in the name of bringing their pet for examination.

As they were leaving and saw him, they drooled over him. He had the kind of face that stopped you in your tracks.

He must get used to that, the sudden pause in a person's natural expression when they looked his way followed by overcompensating with a nonchalant gaze and a weak smile.

Of course the blush that accompanied their admiration was a dead give-away. It didn't help that he was so modest with it, it made the girls fall for him all the more.

Despite all the opportunity that came his way he was a one-woman-man who prized genuineness and thoughtful conversation above lipstick and high-heels.

He might be termed rude or ruthless, but inside he is beautiful. He just wishes that Vera sees that side of him from then on so she would never get hurt by him again.

"Cupcakes, you might trip over and fall, watch where you're going. If you keep doing that, people like that trash seated over there will take you for granted," he chipped, scoffing at Nathan.

When the girls left, he went to sit down. "Nice office, it's not easy to be good-looking and focused… No wonder some people speak so highly of you even behind," he gave Nathan an intent look.

"Oh, stop that and tell me what brought you here!" Nathan demanded uncomfortably.

"I heard you call Vera last night, thought you had more common sense than anyone else to call a lady at that ungodly hour and scare her to death with whatever news you broke to her," Jack went straight to the point.

"It wasn't intentional, I just wanted to know how she's doing, then she pressed me to tell her about the lily flower and letter,"

That's what Jack wanted to hear. He knew there must be something and he knew the only person to tell him is Nathan since she refused to disclose the truth to him.

"What about the lily flower and letter?"

"She didn't tell you? If she didn't, then she must have her reason. I think she's in a better position to answer your questions."

"Please, that's the reason why I came here. You have to tell me, she won't say anything to me," he pleaded.

"If she can't tell you, it means she doesn't trust you and that's your business, not mine. You just have to wait for her to let you in," Nathan drawled.
