I hesitated before closing Vera's door, then I entered Nathan's sitting room so I would have him look out for her.

"You don't have to worry about her, that's why I came back, right?" Nathan assured me immediately I stepped into his room.

He exited to the kitchen and came out seconds later with a cup of iced tea. I knew that was what he was going to do, and I needed it so I didn't stop him.

I took the cup and drained the tea in one take before giving it back to him. He watched me skeptically.

"Is anything the matter?" He asked suspiciously.

"I'm going out of my mind trying to figure out what's going on in my life recently. Just one moment of happiness, then millions of problems surface!" I found it hard to open up to him.

"Hey man, it's one of those days when it seems the world is collapsing on our shoulders and everything bright turns dark. But you and I know it is just for a limited time," he said encouragingly.

"I don't think you understand. This one lingers on and I fûcking háte myself for being too blind to see what was going on," I objected critically.

"Does it have to do with Vera? What happened? You are making me nervous," He strode towards the door.

"No! She's just like that because of her mother. Has she told you the story?" I stopped him from opening the door.

"Oh, I guess she did tell me about it, though half of it because I know she must've told you everything in detail."

He shrugged and added in a very low tone, "I still don't know why she would trust someone like you,"

"I heard that, if I were her, I would choose a lion over you." I smirked.

"Then get ready to be devoured!" He laughed. "She will be fine, and you shall find happiness again. And less I forget, I saw some police officers here this morning when I came back,"

"I told them to mount some CCTV cameras around this vicinity and keep an eye on it because of the unknown person that has been breaking into Vera's house. I also wish your stay here would unveil the traitor," I explained curtly.

"Alright, I'll see to that. I won't tell you to trust me, I don't even trust you." He played.

"I won't trust you, but I expect good news! Goodbye!" I slapped his shoulder lightly, and left.

Few minutes later, I alighted from a cab and paid the driver. Hannah's car and that of which Jessica and her mother weren't around my house. I knew they all had left.

Max waved at me from the pool side where he cleaned the pool. I acknowledged him as I found my way to the kitchen where I found Monica and Timothy preparing dinner.

"How's she?" Monica asked me just as I entered the kitchen.

"She's fine now." I smiled at her and went to get myself something chilled in the fridge.

"Where's she then? She didn't come back with you?" She asked curiously.

"As you can see, yes. She said she needed peace, and the best I can do for her is to let her stay in her house. Nathan is back, so he's watching over her, don't panic," I emphasized as I uncocked a canned fruit drink.

"I hope she gets better. Her mother must've hurt her so badly for her to react that way. She's a strong woman," she praised.

"Then I am the luckiest man on Earth. I met two of the strongest women in my lifetime. Come here," I spread my arms invitingly and she hugged me.
