Neverseen AU kinda like White Eyes On Sleeves. This was a request from LodestarAndNightfall

Keefe was there when it happened.
When Linh was brought to the hide-out where the healer lived.
He had to deliver the news to Tam.
That Linh had been wounded on a mission.
The healer said she had a good chance of recovering,
But it might take months for her to walk again.
Keefe was there when Tam broke down.
"No no no no no no no no no" he'd whispered over and over.

Tam's head was reeling. The same three words were repeating in his head. You failed her.
He'd let her go on the mission.
He'd let her convince him not to go with her.
He'd let this happen
This was his fault.

"Hey hey hey." Keefe said.
The shade didn't respond.
"Tam!" He tried.
He continued trying to snap the boy out of his panic.
He shook the boys shoulders.
Nothing
Tam was stuck in his head.

It was the icy water that brought Tam back to reality
That made him remember that Keefe was there.
Keefe had his hand on Tam's shoulders.
"Hey. This isn't your fault."
"Yes it it I should have— I could have—"
Tears were slipping down his face and he couldn't stop them.
A sob escaped his lips,

Keefe did the only thing he could think of.
He wrapped his arms around the shade.
He didn't move.
He didn't speak.
And although at first Tam struggled to get out of his grip,
After a minute he just sank into the empath.
They stayed like that for a long time.
Just Keefe holding Tam like he was the only thing holding the silver-banged boy together.
And maybe he was.

Tam's sobs eventually dyed down to soft whimpering.
And Keefe held him the whole time
He felt horrible,
He hated crying in front of people
He hated that he'd broken down in front of Keefe.

"It might not be okay now, but it will be eventually." Keefe whispered.
"Promise?"
"Promise."

Welp. That was something. I think I'll do a part two. After I finish part three of White Eyes On Sleeves. Or maybe not. Depends on what I feel like writing in the next 15 mins. The aren't dating in this...
Yet.
