Teen Life
Chapter 2
Joel Campbell
“Has everybody arrived?” I asked Sully who was fidgeting nervously with a bunch of papers in front of him.
“Yes, they are all here. Last one arrived a few minutes ago,” he replied, placing some of the pages into a folder. I watched him carefully to see what has gotten him into such a nervous state, he was still scrambling through the papers which I now noticed was the contestant’s information.
“What the hell Sully!?” I complained, grabbing half of the papers as I sat down next to him.
“I let the files fall,” he said as he handed me some more papers. I sighed as I took them from him, who hired this idiot anyway?
“Good thing Romero isn’t here,” I said, imagining his face turning red at the sight of all the mixed up folders.
“Tell me about it, he would have killed me. Is he coming today?” Sully asked and by the look on his face I could tell he was wishing that I would say no.
“Of course he’s coming, it’s his show,” I said, handing him the folders and walking back over to the control room.
It was ten to five, we had exactly an hour and ten minutes before the show started and I wanted to test all the camera’s one last time. We have installed over two hundred cameras in the house wanting to make sure we caught their every move, this is reality TV after all.
“Mike?” I asked over the intercom.
“Yea, I’m here,” came his response loud and clear. I was a bit worried about the mikes when we installed them but they turned out to work better than we expected. We had installed mikes in the walls and the furniture of each room so that we can catch every conversation, we really didn’t want our audience to miss a thing.
“I want to test the cameras one last time, could you start making your way through the house again?” I asked, knowing that there was no way he could say no but wanting to be polite. I was in charge of running this show so everybody had to listen to me, everybody except Mr. Romero. He hired me a few months ago when he started planning this show. I was fresh out of university but he had heard from one of my professors who were also one of his friends that I was one of the best people to handle a show like this. Producing and directing films have always been my dream so when I got the offer to do this show I jumped at the opportunity.
Mike started making his way through the house making sure that I could see him clearly before he moved on to the next room. When I was satisfied that all the cameras were working properly I told Mike to leave the house and come back to the office which was actually the maids courters at the back of the property.
Mr. Romero bought the house for the show over a year ago but insisted that it was left in its originality. He got in a cleaning crew that cleaned the place up a bit and some decorators that added some furniture but he wanted the house to keep its old creepy look. The house has been around from the early eighteen hundreds and was huge. It had three floors, an attic and a basement. The maid’s courters are at the back of the property and have been separated from the house with a high white wall. The wall surrounded the entire house as well making sure there was no way any of the kids could get out.
