Chapter 23
Something is growing inside
Sage Johnson
When they were done covering Diago’s body we all decided that it was a good idea to get Lainey cleaned up. She was full of the slime and smelled gross. Since we decided that nobody was to go anywhere by themselves we had to split up. Gemma went back into the kitchen and refused
To leave until we had all eaten but to be honest we weren’t really hungry after what we just seen.
Bladen refused to leave Shiloh’s side so they stayed in the kitchen with Gemma and Tailynn while Noriko and I were going to help Lainey get cleaned up. Brady didn’t want to leave Noriko so he was to wait right outside the bathroom door and we were to keep the door open at all times. Storm and Langden covered up the mirror hanging above the basin with a towel and then tied it in place with a sheet that they had cut into pieces. Once they were done covering up the mirror in the bathroom they took off to cover the rest of the mirrors in the house.
Noriko and I stripped Lainey’s clothes from her and threw them to the side of the bathroom. We turned on the shower and helped her in under the warm water, not closing the shower door or the bathroom door. Everybody knew what we were doing and was instructed not to look. I was terrified and couldn’t shake the bad feeling that something was going to happen. I know they closed the mirror but it didn’t make me feel better at all. Lainey did say that the thing was released after all.
We kept an eye on her while she washed, not really paying much attention to her body until she got out and started drying herself off. When she got to her stomach I noticed a bump, a very noticeable bump in fact. I hadn’t noticed it before but I wasn’t really paying attention to her body.
“Oh…, Noriko whispered, taking a step back and steadying herself against the basin while staring at Lainey’s stomach.
“Are you pregnant?” I asked keeping my voice to a whisper.
“I don’t know, I mean I wasn’t. I was a virgin until that thing raped me but I can feel something inside of me. It isn’t possible, not so quick anyway, is it?” she asked, looking at me with pleading eyes that wanted me to tell her that she wasn’t pregnant with some demons baby but I couldn’t.
“Nothing that’s been going on is normal,” I stated looking over at Noriko who was still just staring.
“I can feel it growing,” Lainey whispered as tears escaped her eyes. I took a step toward her to comfort her and that’s when the lights went out for the briefest of seconds before flickering back on.
“Are you girls still ok in there?” Brady asked from outside in the hallway. I expected to hear Noriko’s voice answering him and when I didn’t I turned around to see what she was doing. I saw Lainey look in the direction where she was supposed to be standing too but the only problem was that she wasn’t there. We both looked up at the mirror and as we did the towel fell to the ground revealing a pale white figure standing inside of it. He stared at us with his big black eyes while holding Noriko by the hair. She was staring at us from inside the mirror with a terrified look on her face.
Lainey let out an ear piercing scream and within a second Brady was standing beside us, staring into the mirror. The things deformed lips turned into a smile as he lifted his free hand and trailed his long sharp nails up Noriko’s neck and over her check. He stopped at the side of her head and then without any warning pressed one of his long nails into the top of her head. Noriko’s eyes bulged in her head and then turned black, within seconds I could tell that all life has left her body. The demon licked his lips and then pulled his sharp nail down and through her face cutting her all the way down the half. At this point Lainey had fallen to the ground, sobbing violently and Brady was attacking the mirror and hitting it with his fist. I just stood there in shock as I watched the thing kill my friend.
When it had finished slicing open Noriko’s body it let go of her hair and she fell forward. As she fell the thing and she disappeared from the mirror, leaving only the bathrooms reflection. I heard a strange sound coming from above me and looked up at the ceiling. Not believing my eyes, I took a step back and watched as Noriko’s body fell from the ceiling, landing on the floor right in front of me. It was sliced in half and blood was pouring from it as well as the roof where she had fallen through.
At this point Strom and Langden arrived, stopping in their tracks as they saw the dead body on the floor.
“What happened?” Langden asked looking at me since I was the only one not freaking out. It was not that I wasn’t scared, I was just too shocked to do or say anything. I just stared at the body not answering him.
“It killed her!” Brady yelled as he turned to the medicine cabinet and started pulling at it as if he was trying to pull it from the wall.
“Let’s get them out of here,” Storm said as he stepped over Noriko’s body and grabbed a hold of my arm.
“Come on,” he said pulling at my arm. I finally managed to move and let him help me over Noriko’s body and into the hallway. Next Langden made his way into the bathroom and scooped a still sobbing Lainey up into his arms. He positioned the towel over her naked body and carried her into the hallway.
“Get him out of there and close the door,” Langden said to Storm who did as he was told. He stepped into the bathroom again, almost slipping on the blood and grabbed a hold of Brady who was still fighting with the medicine cabinet, his fingers bleeding as he clawed at it.
Storm struggled but finally managed to pull him out of the bathroom, letting go of him as soon as he could and pulling close the door. Brady fell to the floor letting out a stream of profanities that was directed at the thing in the mirror.
“We should get her dressed and go back downstairs,” Langden said, still holding Lainey in his arms. She had stopped sobbing and was just looking at me with sad eyes. I shook my head in agreement as Strom pulled Brady to his feet and we all made our way to Tailynn’s bedroom. They were about the same size so we would borrow some of her clothing. Not one of us wanted to go into the room where Lainey’s things were.
This time nobody stayed in the hall, we were passed worrying about somebody seeing her naked. We were all to scared and just wanted to get her dressed. Langden put her down on one of the beds and I quickly grabbed a pair of sweats a t shirt from the cupboard. Once I reached the bed I pulled the towel off of her body and everybody’s eyes fell onto the bump in her tummy which was now clearly bigger then it was in the bathroom.
“What the fuck?” Storm yelled from where he was standing beside Langden.
“Let’s just get her dressed, we can worry about that later,” I stated, helping Lainey get the pants on. She was coming out of her shocked state and sat up as I pulled the shirt over her head.
Once she was dressed we headed downstairs. Langden in the front, me and Lainey in the middle holding on to each other and Storm and Brady at the back. We made our way into the dining room where Bladen, Shiloh, Tailyn and Gemmas was sitting, staring at each other.
“Where is Noriko?” Shiloh asked, looking at our shocked faces.
“She’s dead,” I answered as I helped Lainey over to a chair where we sat down.
“The food’s getting cold, do you guys want to eat now?” Gemma asked, looking from one to the other as if she didn’t hear what we just said.
“Yeah, we would love to eat, would you go get the food for us?” Langden asked, sitting down next to Tailynn.
“Of course I will, I’ll be back in a second,” Gemma replied, getting up and heading into the kitchen. Brady and Storm sat down and looked at Langden like he was crazy.
“Are you losing it as well?” Storm asked, shaking his head.
“No but it will make her feel better and even though all of this shit is happening we still need to eat,” Langden replied calmly but I could tell he was nervous and scared underneath.
