Chapter 22

Maggots

Storm Coleman

We were stuck, no matter how hard we tried we couldn’t get any of the doors or windows to open. After throwing the coffee table at the window for the twentieth time I fell down on one of the couches and caught my breath.

“What the fuck is going on?” I asked, finally starting to believe that there really was something to this whole thing in the mirror story.

“It’s that thing, I can feel it,” Tailynn answered from where she was now sitting in a corner, curled up into a little ball and swinging back and forth.

“What does it want?” I asked, I mean if this really was some sort of demon or something it must be after something.

“I don’t know but I suggest we all try to calm down and think about this logically,” Gemma said, walking to the middle of the room.

“Logically? What’s logical about this? There’s a fucken demon in the house taking control of our bodies, raping people and keeping us captive! What the fuck is logic going to help us!?” I yelled, feeling frustrated and scared at the same time.

“We should all eat something, then we’ll feel better,” Gemma suggested as she walked out of the living room and into the kitchen. Everybody stared after her, not sure why she was acting as if nothing was wrong.

“Maybe it’s her way of dealing with it,” Langden guessed when nobody else said anything. We all shook our heads and nodded excepting his explanation, I think most of us were just too tired to try to figure out the other’s actions.

“What do we do now?” Sage asked in her soft voice from across the room, she looked scared and as if she was going to start crying at any moment.

“I don’t know,” I answered, I really had no idea what to do.

“We should stick together, make sure we are with somebody at all times, don’t go anywhere alone until we figure out what is going on,” Bladen said speaking up for the first time.

“That’s a good idea, and we should keep an eye on Diago, make sure he doesn’t go crazy on us again.” Langden suggested.

“Ok, so we stick to groups of two or three and we make turns keeping an eye on Diago,” Brady said like it was a good idea.

“There is no way I’m going into a room with Diago,” Noriko said from next to him.

“Nobody’s going to go into his room, we’ll keep watch from the hall so that if he leaves his room we will know and can make sure he doesn’t hurt anybody else,” I said.  Even if it was something possessing him, I had a feeling he could be very dangerous even if he wasn’t possessed.

“It wasn’t him who did it!” Lainey yelled, frustrated.

“We know, we believe you. It’s just that maybe that thing is still inside of him,” Langden said, trying to calm her.

My stomach grumbled at that point and I was glad that Gemma was making food whatever her reason was. Maybe after we ate we would all feel better.

“It’s the mirrors, it came from inside the mirror,” Lainey said in a shaky voice.

“We know but what can we do?” Tailynn asked from the corner where she was still rocking back and forth on the ground.
