Teen Life

Suicide

Bladen Smith

We watched as Lainey left to go have her baby or whatever that thing inside of her is. We haven’t spoken about it but I’m sure we all knew that she wouldn’t survive the birth. We had no idea what she was going to give birth to and I think we were all much too afraid to find out.

We just stood there staring at each other for a while until we heard a loud ear piercing scream and a thud coming from above.

“Do you think we should go check?” Shiloh asked, looking at me for confirmation.

“Yes, it’s probably better to know what it is then to be surprised,” I answered and let go of her. She took my hand and we made our way upstairs with Brady following closely behind us.

When we got to the first floor we looked down the hall and saw Lainey sitting on the ground holding her stomach and staring at something inside of one of the rooms.

“It’s in Tailynn’s room,” Shiloh said as she left my hand and took off running towards Lainey. I followed her and came to a stand beside her as she too stared into the room.

The sight staring back at us was not very pleasant at all. Tailynn had obviously had enough and had somehow managed to make a rope from torn sheets. She had tied it to one of the light fittings on the roof and hanged herself. Her feet was scraping the floor as her body swung back and forth and her eyes were bulging in her head, leaving no doubt that she was dead.

“We shouldn’t have let her go off on her own like that,” Brady said, stepping forward and pulling the door closed.

“There was nothing we could do,” I replied, taking Shiloh’s hand and looking down at Lainey who was now moaning from pain.

“We should get her onto a bed or something, we can use my room,” Shiloh stated, bending down beside Lainey. Brady stared at me for a second and then took Lainey’s other arm and helped her up.

They helped her onto Shiloh’s bed and then I grabbed a hold of Shiloh’s hand and pulled her towards the door. I wasn’t planning on leaving, I just wanted to be able to get away quickly if we had to. We stood there watching as Lainey’s stomach started bulging and moving in impossible ways. Brady was much too close to her but that was his own choice so I just kept quiet and watched as blood started pouring out of her mouth.

As the movements in her stomach got worse Lainey screamed louder and louder from the pain. This carried on for a few minutes and then the thing decided that it was time to come out. Lainey’s whole body started shaking and with one big move her stomach tore open, sending blood, maggots and slime in all directions. Between all the guts and stuff there was a sudden movement and then a disgusting looking thing pushed itself up onto four legs. It had the features of a human but still it stood on four legs like it was some sort of animal. Its skin was pale white and its eyes pitch black. I little growl escaped its throat and then it turned its head and looked at Brady.

I could see Brady starting to panic and I knew what was going to happen. The thing was going to attack and we needed to get out of there.

“Come on!” I whispered, trying to keep as quiet as possible so that we don’t pull the things attention to us. I could hear the panic in my voice and I had no doubt that Shiloh could hear it to. Without saying a word we both dashed for the door. Brady saw what we were doing and followed us but it was too late. The thing pounced on him like a demon out of hell and I knew there was nothing we could do to help him. I could have tried to kill the thing or something but my first priority was protecting Shiloh and I knew we wouldn’t survive if I did so I shut the door behind me and we ran down the hallway as Brady’s screams faded in the distance.

We made it all the way to the living room before we came to a stop to catch our breath.

“Oh shit,” I mumbled as I looked behind me and saw Gemma sitting on the ground next to Diago’s rotten body. She had pulled the blankets off of him and had a piece of meat in her one hand and was chewing on something which I assumed was a piece of it. Her face was covered in blood the way a five year olds would be covered in ketchup after enjoying a juicy hamburger. Shiloh followed my eyes and I felt her shudder when she saw Gemma and what she was doing.

“What are you doing?” she asked, confusion and disgust very obvious in her voice.

“I was hungry,” Gemma answered calmly as if it was nothing out of the ordinary to be sitting there eating pieces of a rotten body.

“You shouldn’t do that, you are going to get sick,” Shiloh said, taking a step toward her but I pulled her back.

“Don’t go any closer,” I whispered into her ear but it didn’t seem like Gemma was paying any attention to us anyway.

“I’m already sick,” Gemma said and then started vomiting all over the dead body in front of her. Her vomit was filled with maggots and slime just like the others and I knew exactly what was going to happen. Not how but what, she was going to die.

Maggots started crawling out of her nose, her ears and her eyes as slime ran from them. When she finished throwing up she looked up at us took another bite of the meat and fell backward as her body shook violently.

“We have to get out of here,” I said backing away from Gemma’s body and pulling Shiloh with me.

“How? We are stuck,” Shiloh whispered as tears of desperation ran down her face.

“The attic, nobody has tried the attic yet,” I replied, not knowing if it would work but knowing that we had to try something.
