Chapter 14
Picnic under a storm
Shiloh Cooper
We made our way to the back door, wondering what they had in store for us. The last week has been very difficult. I’ve tried my best to get along with everybody, but they are all so different from me and sometimes I’m not quite sure what to say or do. At least I haven’t gotten into any arguments or fights like some of the other kids.
Diago picked a fight with Langden the other day, luckily the other guys managed to calm them down before any punches were thrown. Tailynn’s been really quiet since the incident in the bathroom. She keeps to herself most of the time and only joins in with what we are doing when she has to. I’ve been keeping an eye on her as much as possible without letting her notice. I don’t know if she will last another week if she continues like this.
The night after the incident we all sat down and discussed it. Nobody saw anything except for Tailynn so we had no real idea of what had happened. Diago, Storm and Gemma thought that it might be some sort of prank to get us scared. Langden, Noriko, Lainey and Sage seemed quite worked up by the whole ghost in the mirror idea and I had a feeling that they might believe it was real. Bladen and Brady seemed to be in the same mind set as me, we had no idea what happened. We weren’t sure if the producers would pull such a stunt and we weren’t quite convinced that it could have been a real ghost.
Diago threw open the door, being as aggressive as always and stepped outside. We all followed out into the back yard.
“Fuck me,” he said sounding irritated. Nobody paid him much attention, we were all used to his unruly behavior by now.
On the deck next to the pool there was a long table filled with all sorts of food and drinks, making me think of a buffet. Between the table and the pool there were six little low tables, only big enough for two people to eat at with small pillows to be used as chairs. Next to the table there was a stand with a sound system on. It looked really nice and romantic. This was a strange thing for the producers to do but I think I knew what they wanted to accomplish. They wanted each of us to chose one person who we wanted to eat with, this way the world and the other contestants will be able to see whose side we are really on.
We were all just standing there looking at the strange but yet intriguing set up when the voice over the microphone came on.
Congratulations to all of you for making it through our first elimination. We thought that you all deserved to let your hair down and have some fun. Please select somebody you would want to sit with you at dinner. There is a buffet on the table with all of your favorite foods and drinks. We have also supplied you with a sound system and some cd’s, use them wisely because they will be removed tomorrow morning. We have also noticed that none of you have swum because of the temperature of the water so we have installed a heating system and you now have a heated pool. Enjoy your night because tomorrow we have a very interesting task for you.
We haven’t eaten anything since lunch and I have to admit that the smell of the food was really intriguing. I wanted to run over to the table and start eating but first I had to find somebody to eat with. I knew who I wanted but I wasn’t sure if he felt the same way too.
As soon as the voice was gone Brady grabbed a hold of Noriko’s hand and pulled her over to the table. I could tell that Sage wasn’t happy about it by the look on her face but Noriko didn’t seem to mind at all. I looked over to where Bladen was standing, hoping that he would want to eat with me as well. As our eyes met a smile formed on his face and he held out his hand to me. I quickly made my way over to him, feeling excited and happy that he wanted to eat with me.
