Chapter 10

Something in the mirror

Shiloh Cooper

I was sitting on my bed going through the medical kit that I had asked for when I heard an ear piercing scream coming from down the hall. I reacted before I could think, jumping off of my bed and running in the direction where the hysterical screaming was coming from.

I reached the door and started pulling on it but to no avail, it was locked tightly. The screams grew louder and more panicked by the second and I knew I had to do something to get in there.

“Help! Somebody help!” I yelled as I pulled on the door. I heard some footsteps running in my direction and turned to see all the girls as well as Brady, Rafeal and Langden running towards me.

“What’s going on?” Sage asked as she came to a stop next to me.

“I don’t know, just open it!” I half yelled as the screams from inside turned to panicked sobs.

“Move out of the way,” Langden instructed and we all did as we were told without question. He moved into a strange crouching position and ran into the door using his shoulder to bump it. The door was solid and he had to do this five times before it flew open.

As the door burst open I took a step forward and saw Tailynn sitting on the floor looking up at the medicine cabinet with a terrified look in her eyes. “Get all the guys out of here,” I told Langden and watched as they all disappeared down the hallway. I moved into the bathroom following Tailynn’s gaze but saw nothing out of the ordinary. She was staring at the mirror like she had seen something horrible. She was sitting against the wall with her legs pulled up tightly against her body as if to protect herself. She was shaking furiously as soundless tears ran down her face.

“What happened?” Lainey asked from the doorway where she, Sage and Noriko stood watching in shock.

“I don’t know, let’s just get her out of here first,” Gemma answered them as she helped me get Tailynn to her feet. We secured the towel around her body and then helped her walk out of the bathroom, each of us throwing one of her arms around our shoulders.

Gemma helped me get Tailynn onto her bed and then we both sat down with her, me at the top next to her and Gemma at the bottom.

“What happened?” I finally asked her the question that was on everybody’s mind.

“I… I… there…,” she stuttered, unable to from a proper sentence.

“Calm down, whatever happened in there is over now, just tell us what’s going on then we can help you,” I said, taking a hold of her hand and squeezing it gently. She looked at me with her big eyes and shook her head in agreement as she took a deep breath to calm herself.

“There was something in the mirror,” she whispered and I could see the fear on her face.

“What do you mean? What was in the mirror?” I asked worriedly.

“I don’t know,” she answered as she began to sob again.

I was sitting on my bed wondering when would be the best time to drink my pain tablets. I leg was aching furiously but the pills made me drowsy so I decided to only take them after taking a shower. I was gathering my clothes and getting ready to head to one of the bathrooms when I heard somebody screaming. It was loud panicked screams causing my insides to turn, reminding me of that day.

I wanted to run downstairs to see what was going on but my head started spinning as memories of that day flooded my mind. I sat back down on my bed, placing my head in my hands and taking deep breaths. It took a while for the world to stop spinning and by that time the screaming had stopped as well. When I was sure that I wasn’t going to pass out I collected my stuff that I had dropped and made my way out of my room

First I was going to find out what happened and then I was going to get cleaned up.

Tailynn stopped crying after a while but wouldn’t say anything more about what happened. It looked like she had gone into shock. Shiloh and I sat with her for a while not knowing what else to do. We could hear the other girls and guys discussing what had happened outside in the hallway. Nobody was sure but everybody seemed a bit panicked.

After about an hour the rest of the girls joined us in the room as well as Brady, Rafeal and Langden.

“Where are the other guys?” I asked, wondering why they didn’t come to see what was going on yet.

“Bladen came down to see what was going on, Storm is in the playroom so I don’t think he heard and Diago is in his room,” Sage answered, looking terrified by what happened.

“He locked himself and hasn’t come out yet, I think he might be passed out or something,” Brady said from where he was standing next to Nariko.

“What happened?” Lainey asked, sitting down on her bed.

“We don’t know, she claims that she saw something in the mirror, but that’s all she’ll say,” I answered, watching the other kids to see their reactions. Lainey and Sage looked scared but the rest didn’t seem to believe it.

“Didn’t anybody ever teach her that there is no such thing as ghosts?” Rafeal asked sarcastically before leaving the room.

“Insensitive pig,” I muttered under my breath and heard Sage stifle a giggle.

“She seemed to have calmed down, I think we should let her get some sleep,” Shiloh said, looking worried.

“That’s all we can do,” I replied. We opened Tailynn’s bed and helped her to get in before we left.

“Call us if anything happens,” I said to Lainey who shook her head in agreement. She looked freaked out but stayed on her bed as we left.

I was tired by the events of the day and decided that a shower and my bed is what I needed. Shiloh agreed that it sounded like a good idea so we both went to our separate rooms to get our clothes.

Both the bathrooms on our floor were available and although I don’t believe in ghosts I decided I would use the one where nothing strange have happened. I showered quickly making sure the camera didn’t catch me completely naked and then headed to my room without looking in the medicine cabinet mirror. Like I said, I don’t believe in ghosts but I wasn’t in the mood to take any chances.
