Teen Life
Chapter 31
The End
Shiloh Cooper
I was starting to feel slightly better the further we got away from the house but unfortunately the guy driving the car had other ideas.
“Is there anybody left alive in the house?” he asked, bringing horrible images of all the dead teenagers to my mind and causing my body to start shaking all over again.
“I don’t think so, they were all dead or busy dyeing when we left,” Bladen answered, as he squeezed my hand.
“I still have to destroy whatever the hell that thing is,” the guy said as he pulled the car over to the side of the road.
“No! You can’t go in there! It will kill you!” I yelled frantically as he started getting out of the car.
“I have to, but you two should go on, find the nearest town where you’ll be safe and then send help for me,” the guy stated and then took off running down the road back to the house.
Six months later
I sat staring into my dresser mirror as the faces of all the dead teenagers ran through my mind for the millionth time. There is only four of us who made it, Bladen and I and then Langdon and Rafeal. They found Langdon deep in the forest surrounding the house. He had some really bad wounds but recovered fully and although we seemed to have gotten along in the house, we’ve never heard from him since he was released from the hospital. In fact, I don’t think anybody knows where he is, it’s almost like he just took off and left everything behind. I can’t say I blame him though, considering everything that happened in that house.
Rafeal seems to be doing just fine though but then again, he never experienced any of the dread in the house, he was voted out before it even began.
As for me and Bladen, we’ve been doing just fine. The memories still haunt us both but we’ve managed to move on with our lives and I can honestly say that I’ve never been as happy as I am now. We moved in together as soon as we could and although money’s been a bit tight we are managing perfectly fine.
“Hey, are you ok?” I heard Bladen ask as he gently placed a hand on my shoulder.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I replied, pushing all the haunting memories aside as I got up and wrapped my arms around his neck.
“Good, because there is something I’ve been dying to do all day,” he replied, smiling at me teasingly.
“Oh yeah, and what might that be?” I asked, returning his smile.
“This,” he whispered as he leaned forward and softly pressed his lips against mine.
The kiss quickly grew more intense and soon we were lying on the bed, cuddled in each other’s arms as we kissed and explored each other’s bodies.
Things were just starting to get really steamy when the doorbell rang.
“Who the hell will be here this time of the night?” Bladen asked, sounding a bit confused as he rolled off of me.
“I’ll go see,” I replied, getting up quickly.
I made my way through our small apartment and peered through the looking whole to see who was there.
“Who is it?” Bladen asked, coming up behind me.
“I don’t know, there’s nobody there,” I replied taking a step back from the door.
“That’s strange,” Bladen commented as he unlocked the door and pulled it open.
We both peered out the door, down the long passage but there was nobody there.
“Let’s just get inside,” I stated as an uneasy feeling started to creep through my body.
“Good idea,” Bladen replied as he stepped inside and started pulling the door close.
“Wait!” I half yelled as something caught my eye.
On the floor, right in front of our door was a small black box. I bent down and picked it up and then quickly told Bladen to lock the door behind us.
“What is it?” he asked, sounding a bit nervous.
“I don’t know, but it’s addressed to me,” I replied as I read the tag attached to it.
“This is just weird, why would somebody deliver a package for you so late at night?” Bladen questioned, not looking to happy about the whole situation.
“Let’s see what it is, maybe it will say who it’s from inside,” I said as I lifted the lid.
Inside was a small makeup compact, silver and shiny with beautifully engraved flowers running over the surface. It looked vaguely familiar but I couldn’t quite place where I had seen it before so I lifted it out of the box and flipped it open.
The first thing that grabbed my attention was the name engraved on the inside. In small elegant letters the name Tailynn was written on the one side. The second thing I noticed was the creepy evil feeling that was released as soon as I opened the compact.
I let it fall to the ground and heard the mirror shatter as a barely audible scream escaped my throat.
“What the hell?” Bladen asked from beside me, his voice filled with fear as we looked up at each other.
“Run!” I yelled as I spun around and dashed towards the front door with Bladen right behind me.
I quickly unlocked it and grabbed a hold of the handle, pulling as hard as I could but it wouldn’t open. Memories of what happened in the house flooded my mind and I barely managed not to fall as I stepped out of the way so that Bladen could try to open the door.
“It’s stuck,” he finally said, turning around to face me but instead of looking at me he was staring at something behind me. I immediately knew what he was seeing but slowly turned around to see for myself and confirm my worst fears.
And there it was, the pale white face with the big black eyes staring at us from within a mirror hanging on the wall in our own apartment. It didn’t have a mouth but I could swear it was smiling at us the living room started spinning and my whole world came crashing down around me.
