Enid was lying down on her bed. Thing was beside her, and they were both looking through the latest teen magazines.

"How about this?" Enid asked Thing, pointing to an outfit. Thing thought for a minute, then wagged his finger disappointedly. "Yeah, you're right." Enid sighed sadly.

The door creaked open. A student stepped in quietly, concealing something behind his back.

"Hey!" Enid shot upright as Thing scrambled to the window, trying to hide. "You can't be in here!"

The boy just stood there, unfazed. Suddenly, Enid let out a screech of pain and covered her ears. Something was overloading her werewolf senses. She managed to look at the boy again and saw him smiling. Then she passed out.

Thing raced around the hallways, under furniture and over shoes. Miraculously, no one really noticed him. Those who did had to do a double take and by then, Thing was gone so they just shrugged it off.

Wednesday was standing in front of the trophy case, staring at the picture of her mother. A light buzz came over her ears and she nearly flinched. The buzz was painful, but nothing Wednesday wasn't used to. She wondered where it was coming from. She glanced around and noticed a few students holding their heads and ears in pain. Wednesday raised an eyebrow. Her interest had peaked.

After about a minute, the buzz was gone and the students sighed with relief.

Wednesday's attention turned to her feet. Thing was there, tapping her furiously.

"Calm down." Wednesday crossed her arms.

"Your roommate is in trouble! Someone broke into the dorm!" Thing hurriedly signed.

Wednesday gritted her teeth, but she didn't understand why exactly she was so upset. She shouldn't care what happened to Enid. Enid could handle herself.

"Someone clearly as a death wish." She gave Thing a slight nod and they headed off in opposite directions.

Enid sat on the edge of her bed. She was tied at her wrists and ankles and her mouth was gagged. If it were any other time, she would easily be able to break out of them. The boy had done something that had made her insanely weak. She also couldn't hear as well as she was used to.

"Hey, where is everyone?" The boy demanded. He had been trying to call someone for the past few minutes and had finally gotten through. "What do you mean they got scared?!" He screamed into the phone. He paused to listen. His face went through several stages before it eventually relaxed. "Okay, got it." He hung up and smirked at Enid.

"It's a werewolf desensitizer." He gestured to the small metal piece across her forehead. "I created it myself." He seemed very proud of himself and that enraged Enid. "I plan to use a similar device on that freak roommate of yours."

At that sentence, Enid tried her hardest to move or scream, but nothing happened.

The boy laughed. "It's cute how you tried to defend her. But believe me, that will get you nowhere." A somber look came over his face, and Enid immediately recognized him.

His name was Damian. He had been here just as long as Wednesday. He was a siren and was suspected of attempting to murder half of his old school by leading them to drown. He wasn't caught because no one at the school remembered ever knowing him.

Wednesday walked up to her dorm's door, stopping to press her ear against the wood and listen.

"Oh, don't bother trying anything. If you do, or if Wednesday doesn't show up, I'll just turn the device to the max setting, which will send you down into a long and very painful death." She heard Damian say.

Wednesday clenched her fist and creaked open the door just as the dorm lights went out.

"What is this?!" Damian demanded. Enid could sort of make out his outline from the light from the window. "I swear, if this is some stupid prank, she'll -"

He let out a scream of pain and fell backward as his knees failed him. He tried to see what was wrong but screamed again and gripped his ear in pain.

Warm liquid coated his hands and soaked his sleeves. His earring had been ripped out.

He proped himself up the best he could and saw the gleam of a knive followed by the dark gaze of Wednesday, who was standing over him.

Thing appeared behind Enid and began untying her bonds.

Damian smiled. "If you kill me, this school will turn against you! You'll be expelled! And if I'm lucky, you'll end up like Rowen!"

Wednesday raised the knife, but something yanked her arm back.

"Wednesday." Enid breathed. "It's okay, I'm okay."

Wednesday didn't move for several minutes. Eventually, she slowly lowered the knife.

Enid reached out to take it from her but decided against it. "Thing, can you get the lights?" A minute of scrambling sounds passed, and the lights flickered on.

Enid smiled at Wednesday, but then she noticed the squirming, horrified Damian on the floor, pinned down by Thing.

Enid and Wednesday gave each other a sideways glance as Enid shrugged.
