Wednesday was standing in the middle of Jericho. She did not want to be here, but a recent case had led her there. She had been trying to lay low as the sheriff no longer wanted anything to do with her and would likely arrest her just for the fun of it. While she admired the boldness of it, that was not how she wanted this day to go.

She heard a familiar skipping pattern behind her and turned to see her roommate's smiling face right next to her own.

"Sinclair?" Wednesday questioned, taking a few steps back.

"Heyyy bestieee!" Enid sang, moving her heart-eye sunglasses to her head. "You know, you really shouldn't stand so close to the road. You could get hit by a car!"

"That's the idea." Wednesday mused. Enid seemed unfazed by her statement, something that surprised both of them.

"I'm so sorry but. . . I can't make our girl's night tonight! I completely forgot about Div's surprise birthday party!" She made a pouting face. "Tell Thing I'm sorry! I know how much this meant to you both!"

"Enid." Wednesday cut her off before she got a headache. To be honest, she wasn't even aware there was even a girls' night planned. She didn't mind though. This just meant more peace and quiet, one of the only things Wednesday loved. "It is fine. This will simply give me more time to-"

"AHHH! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!" Enid jumped at Wednesday, hugging her fiercely. "I promise we'll-"

Wednesday went stiff. "Unhand me."

Enid backed off quickly, smiling stupidly. "Sorry!" Wednesday nodded and began walking away, thinking the conversation was over. "I'll text you later then!" Endi called after her.

Wednesday glanced over her shoulder. "Why is there a need for communication?"

Enid made a smug face that greatly annoyed Wednesday. "Come on Wens. We both know you worry."

Wednesday didn't respond for several minutes. The tugging in her chest was back. She should really get it checked out. She refused to die to it. "Don't call me that."

"Whatever you say!" Enid winked at Wednesday and skipped away.

Wednesday got out off there as fast as possible.

Around two hours later, Wednesday was gathering a few things in her bag. She was planning on steaking-out a potential suspect for the rest of the night.

While packing, her hand passed her phone. She picked it up and immediately the screen opened to a blank, black lock screen. Blank. Enid hadn't texted yet.

Wednesday shoved the newly forming thoughts down and finished packing just as Thing jumped onto her desk, tapping furiously to get her attention.

"What is it? I'm busy." Wednesday said plainly.

"There's mass hysteria at the front doors of the school!" Thing signed.

"Oh?" Wednesday raised an eyebrow.

"Yes! Apparently, there's been some kind of attack on the students!" Thing finished. He then jumped off the desk and crawled to the door.

Wednesday stood to follow him. Her interest had peaked.

* * *

Wednesday could hardly get down the stairs through the crowd of students and teachers. She was able to catch some lines of dialog and concluded that Satan himself was here.

This is why she hated rumors.

She managed to stealthy push her way to the front doors. She scanned the injured students. It seemed there wasn't as much chaos as she originally thought. The only ones injured were most of the Nightshades.

She spotted Divana, who was leaning against the wall, holding a shirt to her bleeding head as Yoko banaged her arm. Wednesday looked harder and saw that the shirt had words stitched across it. Birthday Siren.

Birthday.

Birthday party. Surprise birthday party.

Enid.

Wednesday looked around some more, almost frantic this time. She always thought she'd like the moment when her heart finally stopped beating. She didn't anymore. It hadn't stopped because she was dying. It stopped because Enid was leaning against the wall, blood dripping down her face.

Unconscious.
