"That's. . . correct." Wednesday said.

But Enid was already gone.

Thing turned away from the file he had laid out.

No one ever remembered details about her like that. Most people didn't remember her at all. Or they did but, for. . . different reasons.

None had since. . . since Tyler.

She felt her heartrate and breathing speed up and she leaned against the end table beside her.

All at once memories flooded into her mind like sand spilling into a jar. Except the sand was on fire, she was trapped in the jar, and the lid had been closed.

She instinctively reached down to her side.

Her scar.

Thing scrambled over to the table beside her, softly touching her hand. Wednesday glanced at him but her eyes were unfocused and shaky.

"Breathe, Wednesday. Breathe. Slowly." Thing signed, carefully.

She tried. Her mind wouldn't stop racing.

"Focus, Wednesday. Focus on something in the room."

She glanced at the split window, focusing on a specific panel in the frame.

"Good. Keep breathing." Thing softly brushed her hand.

Enid strode in with two coffee cups and way too bright of a smile.

"Sorry! I was gone awhile, wasn't I?"

She kicked off her shoes. "This guy bumped into me, making me spill the coffee! He apologized, of course, and even paid for new drinks! Gosh, why can't all men be like that. Then we ended up talking for a bit and on the way back here, I saw the weirdest fight ever." She set the cups down and sat on her bed. "A vampire and a siren were sumo wrestling?! In the middle of the Quad! Even the professor who broke it up was like, 'What in the hell?'"

She stopped and stared across the room at Wednesday, who was sitting on the floor, analyzing her case files.

"Hey, I've been wondering. No offense but, why are you always quiet?"

"Being quiet allows me to better observe and understand my surroundings. It also makes people who love to talk, talk more. The more they talk, the more I understand their character and can better use their personality against them." She said simply, not looking up.

After a beat, she glanced up at Enid. "It also makes people wildly uncomfortable when you say nothing in response to their everything."

Enid was silent for a while before grabbing the coffee and walking over to Wednesday.

"You're incredibly smart, Wens." Enid sat one coffee down beside Wednesday. "But very misunderstood." Wednesday raised an eyebrow. "Everyone thinks you're an egotistical bitch."

Wednesday stopped looking over the file. Thing faltered. No one said anything for a moment.

"What did I say about that nickname?" Wednesday sighed.

"That you actually adore when I say it?" Enid guessed. Thing made an approving gesture but Wednesday cut him off with a glare.

There was a knock at the door.

Enid sprang to her feet. Her foot was about to knock Wednesday's coffee cup over but Wednesday grabbed it before it spilled.

Enid rushed over to the door, opening it slightly.

There was several moments of hushed whispers and sideways glances. Wednesday couldn't get a good look at who was on the other side.

Enid turned to look at Wednesday a couple times, then went back to whispering profusely. Wednesday tried to block it out, but that had become so much harder lately.

After way too long, Enid quietly shut the door and slowly crept over to her bed.

"Who was that?" Wednesday questioned, not looking up for the files.

Enid made a thinking noise. "Xavier." She said quickly.

Wednesday raised her eyebrows slightly. "Really?" She said, still deadpan as ever.

"Yeeesss." Enid said slowly, nodding too many times. "He's leaving, so he said goodbye."

Thing fidgeted sadly in the corner. He had wanted to say goodbye to Xavier as well.

"You're really are an idiot if you think I believe that." Wednesday scoffed. "You're such a pretty liar."

Thing dropped the paper he was studying.

"Uh, w-what?" Enid trembled.

"What?" Wednesday looked up and realized what she'd said. Her mind blanked. "Wait, no, Enid-"

"NO! DO NOT go back on what you said!" Enid marched across the room. "I am tired of you avoiding your feelings! You're destroying yourself!"

Wednesday remained emotionless.

"Be honest, Wednesday Addams!" Enid knelt it front of her. "Do you have genuine romantic feelings for me?"
