"No." Wednesday said coldly.
"You're lying." Enid said softly.
"I do not feel romantic emotions, Enid. So how could I have them for you?" Wednesday told her, even more frigid.
Enid drew her hands into her chest. "You're lying."
Wednesday sighed. "Despite everything I've ever said, I don't enjoy lying to you."
Enid's blood boiled. How could Wednesday say things like that to her?! How could she sit there and look so goddamm beautiful and feel nothing?!
"I'll be leaving now." Wednesday stood. "You have given me enough information and I don't want to waste anymore of your time."
Enid stood slowly, almost in shock. Wednesday stepped past her towards the door. "I don't consider you a waste of my time."
Wednesday stopped and turned to stare at her. She fought the urge to ask Enid for a hug with everything she had.
"Goodbye Enid." Wednesday turned again.
Enid stiffened. She didn't want to seem clingy or obsessed but she could not let Wednesday leave. Not after everything they had been through in just two short years.
Everything in her screamed against it, but she reached out and grabbed Wednesday's sleeve. Wednesday twisted around and gripped Enid's wrist. Enid didn't let go.
"Unhand me Sinclair." Wednesday hissed.
"I'm not scared of you." Enid protested.
Wednesday could feel Enid's pulse. "Then why is your heart racing?"
Enid's face felt hot and she suddenly spoke without thinking. "Maybe it's because I think you're very pretty!"
Wednesday let go. Her faced twisted into a confused blush. "You. . . you. . . what?"
Everything was silent. No sound but the two of them breathing.
Suddenly the door opened and Bingo stepped in. He meowed gravelly and laid down where Wednesday's bed had once been.
"Bingo!" Enid beamed and rushed over to him. "Hey little guy!"
"Sinclair."
"I missed you! Where have you been?"
"Sinclair."
"I hope you didn't get into any trouble! Aw, aren't you the cutest?"
"Enid, please." Wednesday's voice was barely a whisper. "What did you mean?"
Enid set Bingo down and looked around nervously. "I-uh. . . don't understand what you're asking?"
"You called me pretty. How do you mean?" Wednesday was simply in denial now. "Skillful? Deadly? Cunning?"
"No, you monochrome idiot! I think you're attractive!" Enid blurted. "I think you are literally gorgeous, inside and out! Many people don't see the side of you I get to see and it always made me feel special, but I didn't understand til recently. I assumed I just admired you or something, but when you protected me, comforted me, supported me, and tolerated me for all I am. . . I realized I didn't admire you. I had a crush on
Wednesday softened and tried to think of something she could do to break Enid's ranting.
"I pushed those feeling down once I realized, but I still put those damn flowers in your locker, praying you'd figure it out. When you did, I was too stubborn to admit it! Everyone constantly asked if I had feeling for you and. . . I always ran away."
"Enid-" Wednesday said gently
"Three months ago, when I thought I was going to loose you forever, I let it out. You didn't feel the same way. I knew that! I had always known you would never feel the same way! I knew you would never want to do anything romantic again! Not after Tyler. So I forced it all down again but the second I saw you at my door, it broke free again! I'm sorry if I've made you uncomfortable I just-"
Wednesday twined her index finger with Enid's. Enid looked from Wednesday to their twined fingers then back at Wednesday.
She was definitely dreaming.
"Wens-" she started, her eyes watery.
Wednesday let go of her hand and took several steps back. "Don't look at me like that."
"What?" Enid whimpered.
"Like an abandoned puppy." Wednesday scoffed.
"I can look at you however I like. You don't care. You don't care about anything!" Enid snapped.
Wednesday seemed to shrink into herself. "That's. . . not true. Not anymore."
Enid huffed and leaned against the pillar in the middle of the room. She made a face like she was waiting impatiently.
"I'm not telling you anything." Wednesday crossed her arms.
"Wednesday Addams! I just poured my heart out to you! The least you could do is give me a proper response!" Enid whined.
Wednesday sighed and crossed her arms tighter. "I care about my family. No matter how much they underestimate me."
Wednesday noticed Enid's face. It was almost. . . angry. She hated seeing it for some god-foresaken reason. "I. . . care. . . about. . . you. Your opinions and your interests, your ideas and your feelings. I. . . used to think that was weakness but. . . it can make people stronger, more connected." She turned away. "There. Is that what you wanted?"
Enid didn't say anything for once. Wednesday peeked over her shoulder and rolled her eyes. "Just do it."
"What?"
"I can see it in your eyes. Just go ahead. Get it over with."
Enid reluctantly straightened and approached Wednesday. There was a moment of pure tension and hesitation before Enid kissed Wednesday on the cheek. Wednesday's eyes widened and she took and quick step away from Enid.
"That. . . that. . . is. . . not what I thought you were going to do." Wednesday admitted.
"I'm sorry! Was that okay?!" Enid fussed.
"No, I-" Wednesday sighed. "Didn't. . . hate it."
"What was that?" Enid asked.
"I didn't say anything."
Enid just smiled, but as that smile appeared on her face, it just as quickly faded. "Is everything going to be different now?"
Wednesday cocked her head. "The world is constantly changing." She checked the clock behind her. "Just like the time. As much as my family annoys me, they expect me back in the morning. I need to go."
"Will you visit?"
"I suppose."
