Poem of the Lost

When they ask, "What's the cost?"

I sit, sigh and gaze back at all I lost.

I look around

Nothing breaks the silence, not a sound.

I warn them, I have lost many close to me.

I tell them there are those I never get to see.

I cry and scream to let it all out.

Then I tell them what it was really all about.

I let them know it's about the journey you take.

It's less about what is at stake.

You find the person in the mirror.

And every second, it becomes more clear.

You'll have at least one sad goodbye.

But your memories and love for them never die.

You'll laugh and smile quite a bit.

You'll frown too, and maybe throw a good fit.

With the good and the bad,

The happy and sad.

You'll ask in the end

"Was it worth it my friend?"

I'll give you a nod and a smile

"Yes, in the end it was all worthwhile."
