Chapter 12

We got back to my house at about noon and went inside.

Ross carried the bag of noodles to the kitchen and I followed behind with the dessert.

"Hey! You guys were gone awhile. What did you do?" She questioned us.

"I ran into someone from school." I said unenthusiastically.

"Who? Was it one of your friends?"

All I could think of was Brittany. I never told her I was leaving for a month.

"No, it was Jacob. I doubt you know him." I said.

"Hey, I'll be right back. I have to go tell Brittany I'm leaving. I got wrapped up in everything that I forgot. She will be crushed." I said sadly.

"Alright. Ross can stay here and help me cook. You can take my car. Be careful, you're still a newly licensed driver."

I nodded and headed out to the car. I climbed in and the radio was still going from my recent trip with Ross. I couldn't get the thought of Brittany being crushed out of my head.

I pulled into her driveway and knocked on the door.

"Hey Ashely! It's so nice to see you here. Does Brittany know you're coming?" Brittany's mom questioned.

"No. Actually I was coming to tell her something important that I had to do in person." I said to the floor.

"Alright. Well, she's up in her room."

I walked in the door and down the hall to Brittany's room.

I slowly knocked on the door.

"Come in!" She yelled.

I opened up the door slowly.

"Hey Ashley! What are you doing here? I thought we were getting together this weekend." She said.

"I needed to tell you something." I said, closing the door behind me.

"What's wrong? Don't tell me you're pregnant." She looked shocked.

"No! You and my mother are both on that topic. I'm not. I wanted to tell you we can't hang out this weekend."

"Why? I thought we were gonna talk about this past week?"

"We were, but, something came up."

"Well, are you going to tell me?"

"I'm leaving for a month to go on tour with Ross and his family."

"WHAT??!? HOW AREN'T YOU EXCITED!!??!"

"I'm very excited! I just thought you would be upset about me leaving." I said slowly.

"Of course I'm upset my best friends leaving for a month, but you are going on tour with Ross for a month. I'm so excited for you! We can still talk everyday. You better bring me some souvenirs back though."

"I'm gonna miss you." I whispered.

"Awe, I'm gonna miss you too, but you'll be back. I will see you soon. Tour will fly by and you will be back in no time. You will have tour stories to tell in school. This will be so awesome! I'm gonna miss Ryland too. We have been together everyday since our dates."

"What if you come to dinner tonight? My moms having his whole family over to meet them. Ryland will be there. You should come! My mother won't mind. What's one other person to the current 12?"

"Ok. Make sure your mom knows and I will ask mine."

"I have to go. I left Ross to help make dinner with my mom. See you later." I said and went back to the car.
